About The Opportunity We are looking for an Engineer, Tailings Facility to join our Thompson Creek team. The Tailings Facility Engineer (RTFE) is accountable for the safe, sustainable, and compliant management of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and associated water systems for a dam built with cycloned sand with a centreline construction method. This technical and leadership role will oversee tailings design, deposition planning, dam safety, governance compliance, environmental and permitting, and long-term risk management. The position acts as the key interface with the Engineer of Record (EoR), regulators, technical reviewers, and senior management, ensuring that the facility meets or exceeds internal and industry guidelines, as well as all permitting requirements and relevant regulations. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following: * Lead the strategic planning and safe operation of the TSF, including dam raises, water balance, and deposition planning. * Serve as the company's technical representative and point of contact for the EoR, Independent Tailings Review Board (ITRB), regulators, and external stakeholders. * Support the develop, maintain, and enforce the Tailings Management System (TMS) in alignment with MAC guidelines, permit requirements, and corporate governance. * Oversee preparation and updates of the OMS manual, Dam Safety Reviews, annual Engineer of Record reports, and emergency preparedness plans. The updates would include periodically reviews of the trigger action and respond plan (TARP). Preparation, execute and document periodical emergency preparedness drills to provide confidence in the event of an event. * Support, and where applicable direct, design reviews, risk assessments, and construction QA/QC for dam raises, cyclone sand operations, and tailings systems. * Ensure integration of TSF operation and construction with mine and concentrator (milling & flotation) operations, optimizing slurry rheology, deposition, cyclone performance, dam raise and construction requirements, and reclaim water quality to meet mine plan requirements. * Oversee geotechnical, geochemical, and hydrological monitoring programs, including piezometers, Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs), topographic and bathymetric surveys, settlement surveys, seepage monitoring, and water quality testing. * Support the review, interpret, and approve geotechnical and hydrological models, stability analyses, and deposition modelling and construction progress to ensure goals will be met. * Lead implementation of dam safety programs consistent with regulatory frameworks. * Identify, assess, mitigate, and where possible optimize, geotechnical, environmental, and operational risks related to tailings and water management. * Provide support on closure and reclamation planning, including options for beach and water management, progressive rehabilitation, and long-term water treatment. * Build strong relationships with operations, processing, and environmental teams to align water and tailings strategies. * Represent the company at technical and community forums, and engage with stakeholders, regulators and local communities regarding tailings management practices. * Drive innovation and adoption of new technologies (e.g., advanced instrumentation, real-time monitoring, cyclone improvement and optimization). About You The following will be critical to successfully performing this role: * Bachelor's, Geotechnical, Geological, or Mining Engineering. A master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering will be an asset. * Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in tailings, dam engineering, or geotechnical engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. * Experience with cyclone operations, water reclaim systems, and tailings operations. * Proven track record working with industry guidelines, permit requirements, and compliance. * Experience managing relationships with EoRs, ITRBs, and regulators. * Understanding of slurry transport, deposition, dam design, seepage control, and water management. * Knowledge in drone survey, drone piloting, CAD. * Knowledge in geotechnical and hydrogeological software (GeoStudio, FLAC, Slide, GoldSim, or equivalent) will be an asset. * Strong ability to review, validate, and approve technical reports, stability analyses, and design documentation. * P.Eng, PE or equivalent.
