The Saenger Theatre is a historic performing arts venue originally opened in 1927, renowned for its opulent design and atmospheric interior that mimics a Mediterranean courtyard under a twinkling night sky. Restored to its former glory after Hurricane Katrina, the theatre reopened in 2013 following a $54 million renovation with state-of-the-art upgrades while preserving its classic charm. Today, it hosts Broadway shows, concerts, and other major live events, serving as a cultural cornerstone in the heart of the city. The venue seats 2,800.
The Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts, located in New Orleans' Armstrong Park, is a premier venue named in honor of the legendary gospel singer and native of the city. After investing $27 million, the theater reopened in 2009 after extensive post-Katrina renovations The theater features modern amenities while supporting opera, ballet, and symphonic performances. It plays a vital role in New Orleans' cultural revival, hosting both local productions and national touring shows. The venue seats 2,300.
The Technical Director will:
• Supervise labor calls for local IATSE stagehands and wardrobe along with any additional contracted labor and/or vendors for production.
• Manage the Stage crew, estimate labor and material costs, technical coordination, advance details with touring companies, promotors, and rental clients.
Prepare purchase orders, invoices, settlement information and production department payroll, as required.
Advance shows with artist and promotor production teams, scheduling event days (including load in and load out), rental equipment, and trucking when necessary.
Communicate and coordinate with other ATG New Orleans departments on all department needs for specific events.
Supervise events onsite and on day of show as required; coordinate calls with ATG New Orleans's stagehands; coordinate all aspects of the event day including outside rental of equipment, catering, hospitality, parking, backstage security, runners and other specific production needs.
Prepare production settlements on the night of the show, working with the IATSE steward, and outside vendors to collect necessary settlement documents.
Submit weekly payroll for union stagehands.
Direct the upkeep and maintenance of Production equipment.

EXPERIENCE and SKILLS
• Minimum 5 years of experience in live theatre production, touring concert or theatre production, event production or technical direction and/or production management venue experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft office. Ability to read and understand technical drawings, proficiency in Vector works is a plus.
Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of technical theatre. Functional competency in rigging, audio, video, lighting production, stage operations and logistics.
Competence with moving light utilization & operation, ETC lighting consoles/networks, Yamaha and Midas Pro sound consoles, is a plus.
ETCP rigging certification is highly desirable.
Experience working with and managing union crews.
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work graciously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Must be available to work nights and weekends as requested and necessary.
Should be able to assist in lifting materials up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to climb stairs regularly, occasionally work on a theatre grid and on catwalks above the ceiling.
Must be able to work in the high decibel level environment of concert rehearsal and performance.
Must be able to communicate by phone with clients as well as in person.
