1957

Chanel and her spring collection received the Fashion Oscar at the 1957 Fashion Awards in Dallas.

1965

Later, in 1965, Pierre’s son, Jacques Wertheimer, assumed his father’s management of the parfumerie.

1967

In 1967 he was hired as consultant director by upscale Italian design house Fendi to modernize the company’s fur line.

1970

Chanel designed the last jacket for her last collection in 1970.

1971

Coco Chanel died on 10 January 1971, at the age of 87.

1974

In 1974, the House of Chanel launched Cristalle eau de toilette, which was designed when Coco Chanel was alive.

In 1974, Jacques's 25-year-old son Alain Wertheimer gained control of the company.

1978

1978 saw the launch of the first non-couture, prêt-à-porter line and worldwide distribution of accessories.

In 1978, Chanel introduced its very first ready-to-wear collection for the Fall/Winter season.

1979

The firm moved into Korea in 1979, opening a shop in the well-to-do city of Pusan.

1980

In 1980, Alain Wertheimer stepped up efforts in Chanel's United States fashion operations.

1984

Jerry Hall walked the couture Fall/Winter 1984 runway wearing a sequin maxi dress and pumps.

1985

Chanel's widower, Arie Kopelman, was hired by Alain Wertheimer (whose family owned Chanel by then) to take the reins of Chanel Inc., the firm's new United States subsidiary, in 1985.

1987

Starting as an intern in 1987.

From 1987 on, he photographed many of Chanel’s fashion advertisements, and his work was published in fashion magazines such as British Vogue and Interview.

1997

Chanel and famous French hairdresser Frederic Fekkai created a joint venture in 1997; the Frederic Fekkai Beaute began selling hair care products and fragrances in New York that year.

1998

A revival of tweed in the late '90s on the Spring/Summer 1998 couture catwalk.

The celebrity front row began to emerge at the end of the '90s; Celine Dion attended a Chanel show dressed in black and white in 1998.

1999

Also in 2004 he collaborated with the discount retailer H&M on a venture to produce limited-edition clothing lines by designers from the high-fashion world.
