The Local Facility Chaplain at the Los Fresnos detention facility leads the Religious Services Program for all detainees. This includes worship, religious education, and pastoral counseling in compliance with ICE standards and facility requirements. Key Duties Lead worship services, religious education, and holiday observances for detainees. Provide pastoral counseling and spiritual support across diverse faiths. Conduct weekly rounds in all housing units, including medical and restrictive housing areas. Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers and contractors. Serve as primary onsite religious point of contact for ICE staff and detainees. Remain available 24/7 for emergencies and physically report onsite within 120 minutes if called. This position ensures that the religious and spiritual needs of all individuals within the JPS Health Network are met. Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities: * Assesses patient and family spiritual needs and assists families in using their faith in dealing with illness, trauma, and stress; visits newly admitted patients and patients with special requests in assigned areas; visits critical care waiting areas each day; follows up with patients from previous visits when appropriate. * Participates in maintaining proper administrative procedures for the department, following institutional policy. * Tracks spiritual care activities to communicate with other department members and reports to the department/institution using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and other departmental reporting tools. * Assists in coordinating clergy and pastoral visits from the religious community. * Participates in the department's plan for ongoing quality improvement and compliance. * Educates patients and their families about Advance Directives, advising them on understanding documents related to their healthcare, such as Living Wills and Medical Power of Attorney (MPOA). * Leads and documents all aspects of decedent care and morgue management. * Displays comprehensive knowledge of all pertinent policies and procedures related to spiritual care and ethics responsibilities. * Responds appropriately to ethics consults and, when necessary, partners with other knowledgeable ethics team members to develop a plan of care. * Assesses staff needs and offers appropriate interventions. * Collaborates with new team members to facilitate a smooth and effective onboarding process. * Engages in other duties as needed to further the mission of Spiritual Care & Ethics. * Job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and may be subject to change with or without notice. Your life as a Chaplain Your role is very important to our patients and organization. We will rely on you to ensure that we support our staff in making sure that with patient/family permission spiritual needs are met. We work as a team so there will be a need to interact with other members of our team to provide collaboration with the Support Services Coordinator and Interdiciplinary Team in development and revision of the plan of care. You will be part of an on-call rotation for after-hours support. Our schedules are generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday. Ability to guide and assist patients and families as well as team members in spiritual and/or general counseling situations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist with directing and supporting all aspects of religious programs. Support the approval, coordination, and training of lay and clergy volunteers from faiths represented in the population. Assist with holding religious services and prayers. Help coordinate religious volunteers from the community. Provide religious and spiritual counseling under the direction of the Chaplain. Assist with preparing and maintaining a schedule of all religious activities. Help maintain the religious resource directory. Assist with notifying detainees of serious illness, death, or disturbing events. Support notifications to detainees' families regarding serious illness or death when assigned. Assist with reviewing and distributing approved religious publications. Maintain communication with faith communities and assist with approved donations of equipment or materials for religious programs. Promote development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behavior and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed. Assist with maintaining accountability of offenders and religious program property. Required Knowledge Skills/Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
