After switching over to my first non-profit for 2 years in 2007, I found that the methodology and the direction is still the same as it is in the for-profit world. If you can't control costs, you will not be successful. Revenues rise and fall with the changes in the economy or your business model and product life cycle, but if you have the proper controls on your costs, you can pull back on the levers you have those controls on and adjust to keep up with the fluctuations in revenue more easily. My goal is to bring my past lessons learned to any institution that has not yet found the keys to the cost levers that will make them nimbler and more flexible in a changing environment. Leading groups of between 1 and 8 direct reports, I have learned that mentoring and teaching are one of my key strengths as well as cost control. Hands on process and systems re-engineering have given me a chance to serve as project manager for several cost improvement initiatives that resulted in a cost avoidance of between $500k and $1.5M. I am an advanced user of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Intermediate user of Access.
