Charlotte Christian School company history timeline

1950

Established in 1950, Charlotte Christian School is a Christ-centered, college preparatory, independent, non-denominational school serving students in grades JK-12.

History The school first opened its doors in 1950 as Calvary Christian Day School for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

In 1950, D.L. Pointdexter McClenny began a ministry at Calvary Presbyterian Church in uptown Charlotte called Calvary Christian Day School for kindergarten to grade six.

1962

Offices were built and others renovated, and the Seminary moved all operations into the newly renovated 1962 building.

1964

Class officers from the first graduating class, 1964.

In 1964, Christian High School graduated its first class with seven seniors.

1969

In 1969, these two schools merged to become Christian School Association of Charlotte, Inc., creating a kindergarten through twelfth grade institution.

1971

The school continued to grow and moved to its current site on Sardis Rd. in 1971.

1972

March 12, 1972 - Ground was broken for the first building at the current site, now the middle school building, named for Harry Graham.

1976

In 1976 the school was renamed Charlotte Christian School.

1998

The school library began in late 1998.

1999

On February 22, 1999, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to change the name of the institution from New Life University to New Life Theological Seminary.

After receiving permission from the appropriate state authorities and in keeping with the Seminary’s new focus, the Seminary begin registering students into the Bachelor of Arts in Urban Christian Ministry and the Master of Arts in Urban Christian Ministry Degree Program in early 1999.

2002

Rhonda Jaynes was hired in 2002 to relocate the library to the Whiting Avenue address that the library began to take shape.

2007

Since 2007, HCA has graduated 96 students in thirteen commencements.

The desire to pursue excellence in all things has been a commitment of the school since its inception in 2007; therefore, the school began its pursuit of national accreditation early on.

2014

Then in 2014, the Board of Directors, working off three years of assessment and the vision or the institution’s founder, adopted a number of motions to assist in the continued development of the institution.

2015

Recognizing the need for an academic support program for our students, as well as students in our community, HCA founded The Bridge Learning Center in 2015.

2017

The main campus was housed at the former Woodland Baptist Church, of which HCA became the owner in September 2017.

2018

HCA was proud to be able to open the doors of its new campus on August 23, 2018.

In 2018, the school successfully completed its first five-year curriculum review cycle.

2020

Due to the growing need and God’s timing, the school broke ground in September 2020, during a pandemic and a time where most people were conserving and putting a hold on large projects.

Charlotte Christian completed phase 2 of the master campus plan with the opening of the new athletic complex on the northern part of campus in November of 2020.

In this continual pursuit for excellence, HCAplus was introduced in 2020 as an extension of the existing academic program of Haywood Christian Academy.

2021

The school received the final certificate of occupancy on June 3, 2021 and hosted its first event, HCA’s annual Alumni vs.
