Job Summary
We are seeking a Personal Care Aide to join our team. In this role, you will make a difference in the lives of seniors and people with disabilities by enhancing their quality of life. Responsibilities include assisting with hygiene needs, light housekeeping and errands, dispensing medication, and other tasks that improve the clients living environment and standards. The ideal candidate is patient, compassionate, and reliable.
Responsibilities
Making sure the clients take their medication by offering reminders and very minimal assistance by loosening the lid or cap of the medication container.
Supporting and transferring clients who are not strong enough to move or walk on their own, including clients with a physical or cognitive disability, those recovering from illnesses and surgeries, and those taking medications that make them dizzy or weak.
Assisting clients with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, hair and nail care, oral and denture care, and other tasks based on the individual needs of the client.
Cooking nutritious meals for the client and offering very minimal assistance with feeding.
Maintaining a clean environment for the client by handling light housekeeping tasks, including vacuuming, dusting, doing the dishes, cleaning kitchen surfaces, cleaning the bathroom (no deep cleaning), doing laundry including pressing/ironing, folding or hanging laundered items in the closet, etc., changing beddings/making the bed, keeping the home free of clutter, spillages on the floor, and other safety hazards, and other light duties based on the individual needs of the client.
Shopping for groceries and other items, as per the service plan of the client, and running errands.
Observing, logging, and reporting changes in the client, reactions to medications, and other important incidents or accidents.
Documenting services provided in the clients record.
Performing First Aid and acting responsibly during emergencies of any kind.
Providing non-medical transportation.
Providing companionship and emotional support.
Performing and handling other personal care tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Supervisor or Administrator.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years old or older
Must have a high school diploma
Must be appropriately trained or be willing to undergo training
Must pass a competency assessment test covering all aspects of personal care assistance
Must have first aid training
Must demonstrate a deep understanding of agency policies and procedures
Must be of good health as demonstrated by the pre-employment health screening procedure.
Must possess strong ethics, be an excellent communicator, have people skills, and be able to speak, write, and understand English well.
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers as a means to help manage the clinical situation.
Responsibilities:

Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention and evaluation for assigned patients.
Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patient and families in accordance with their level of practice.
Using the appropriate protocol, administers medications and treatments; monitors for side-effects and effectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
Assess learning needs and provides education to patients, family members and/or care givers; identify issues and resources.

All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and initial on-boarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a MedSurg specific competency validation.
All newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation. Skills completion and competency completion will be achieved with the preceptor at the bedside and documented through the program's tracking software.
Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
Experience
One year of experience in a related nursing specialty preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
Current ACLS certification required
In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
Credential Grace Periods:
If additional credentials are required per the Position Requirements section, a grace period to obtain the certification will apply, dependent on your experience level.
Any Candidate/Associate with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate.
Any Candidate/Associatewho doesnothave at least one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate New to the Specialty.
