This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the Chatham University campus community and reports directly to the Chief of Police. It requires sound independent judgment, professionalism, and a strong commitment to public service.
The Chatham University Police Department is dedicated to crime prevention and fostering a culture of safety through the principles of Community Oriented Policing within our diverse university environment.
Campus Police Officers are commissioned by the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas and possess the same arrest and prosecution authority as any police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides safety and security services to the university community by patrolling campus properties, preventing incidents, and responding promptly to emergencies to maintain a secure and welcoming environment.
Build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors through professional daily interactions.
Respond promptly to a variety of emergencies and service calls (including medical emergencies, fires, alarms, accidents, suspicious activity, and criminal incidents).
Serve as a first responder during medical and mental health emergencies, administering care within the scope of training.
Enforce Pennsylvania criminal and traffic laws.
Conduct preliminary investigations and prepare accurate, timely reports.
Participate in required training sessions and professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of university safety initiatives.
QualificationsRequired:
Pennsylvania Act 120 certification
U.S. citizenship.
Minimum age of 21.
Eligibility to carry a firearm (no disqualifying convictions).
Valid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred:
Prior law enforcement experience.
Strong communication and de-escalation skills.
Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The student worker will help implement the PA Hunger-Free Campus Grant awarded to Chatham University for the grant timeframe of Jan 1 - Dec 31, 2025. As such, the student will play a key role in data collection related to Grant goals and objectives by participating in spreadsheet creation, monitoring of data collection and data entry. Student will be responsible for the communications aspect of the grant - both helping to gather and assess student input as well as sharing out information through flyers, newsletters, email, etc. with students about the food security initiatives funded by the grant. The student is asked to think critically while doing the work to help the team problem solve and adjust processes as necessary. Sensitivity to the issues of student food insecurity is required.
Specifically:
Help create spreadsheets and systems to capture (in pounds) food procurement (purchased, donated foods, and Eden Hall-grown) and food and meal distribution on all three campuses. Enter collected data in appropriate data base.
Help create spreadsheets and systems to capture numbers of students using the Essential Needs Pantries and Free Frig on all three campuses. Enter collected data in appropriate data base.
Track the pounds of Eden Hall produce that are transformed into shelf-stable products
Track number of students attending the monthly Fresh Market give-aways and the pounds of food provided through that venue.
Communicate, through newsletters, flyers, emails and more, the resources this grant enables us to provide to Chatham students.
Play an integral role with the Hunger Free Campus Team in the creation of the grant-funded Buying Club

The opportunity:
The Scientific Instrument Maker and Machine Shop Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting the teaching and research mission of the Physics & Astronomy Department. This is a highly independent position responsible for the design, co-design, fabrication, assembly, improvement, and occasional repair of specialized apparatus for instructional labs, classroom demonstrations, and faculty research. The Supervisor works closely with faculty to brainstorm creative solutions, translating scientific ideas into reliable instruments that advance learning and discovery.
In addition to equipment design and fabrication, the Supervisor manages and oversees the Department's machine shop, ensuring safe and effective operation of fabrication equipment. The opportunity:
The Summer Horticulture Internship offers a unique work experience in a campus arboretum well-suited to an individual interested in a career in ornamental/public horticulture. On-the-job training includes exposure to garden maintenance, plant records and curation, plant propagation, and volunteer interaction. Summer interns rotate with gardening staff affording exposure to all areas of the Scott Arboretum & Gardens including a sustainable rose garden, intimate garden settings of the Cunningham House, Pollinator Garden, and Harry Wood Garden, green roofs, and seasonal container gardening featuring unusual annuals and tropical plants. Other opportunities typically include: admittance to the Woody Plant Conference, plant walks, lunch with the Director, field excursions to visit area gardens, sessions with staff, equipment use demonstration, and writing Plants of the Week, a feature on the Arboretum's blog, Garden Seeds.
The internship is a minimum of 10 to maximum of 28 weeks; typically starting in March to May and ending August to October. Work hours are 8:30 am - 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm, with occasional evening and weekend hours depending on events.
Essential Responsibilities
* Assists in maintaining the plant collections by performing timely planting, weeding, mulching, pruning, fertilizing, irrigating, leaf raking, and other plant cultural practices in order to maintain campus aesthetics and provide proper horticultural care. Assists in design modifications as needed to the Arboretum's landscape and gardens. Assists in plant records and plant curation as needed.
* Assists in maintaining specialty garden areas consisting of Glade Garden, Harry Wood Garden, Nason Garden, Pinetum, Pollinators Garden, Singer Hall landscape, Winter Garden, magnolia and holly collections, green roofs, various courtyard gardens and major horticultural collections as the most intensively-maintained gardens on campus.

The Economic Mobility Manager (EMM) will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of Ready2Prosper, an emerging workforce development initiative tailored to the needs of single-parent Scholars. The EMM will play a critical role in preparing Wayfinders Scholars for successful transitions to sustainable careers.

Apprentice HVAC Mechanic
Chatham University welcomes applications for the position of Apprentice HVAC Technician in our Facilities Management Department.
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Facilities Management, the Apprentice HVAC Technician assists the HVAC Mechanic with the operation, maintenance, and servicing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This includes chillers, direct exchange systems, boilers, steam or hot water generating and distribution equipment, furnaces, air handlers, unit ventilators, and related components across all campus buildings. The Apprentice also helps maintain and service associated pumps, valves, and piping.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required to attend classroom training held by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 95.
Follow instructions of the HVAC technician and assists in their duties.
Under the supervision of the HVAC technician, perform routine tasks such as clean or change filters, lubricate parts, tighten fittings, etc.
An incumbent in this class may be required on an occasional basis and according to need to perform duties assisting other trades areas.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience in the HVAC trade or vocational training in a mechanical trade.
Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams.
Knowledgeable of the use of tools, equipment and materials of applicable trades.
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
Must be able to attend classroom training held by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 95.
