We are looking for a Lead Recruiter to own our hiring efforts from end to end, across R&D, GTM, and G&A. This role sits at the center of how we grow our company and requires strong judgment, clear communication, and a deep sense of ownership.
You will be responsible for bringing exceptional people into Check, partnering closely with people leaders to define the needs on each team, clarify what great looks like in each role, and engage with top talent to fill those seats. You'll be designing and running hiring processes that are both detailed and rigorous, as well as thoughtful and human. To thrive in this role you must care deeply about candidate experience, hiring quality, and your real daily business impact.
In this role, you will:
Own full-cycle recruiting across Engineering, GTM, and G&A, bringing an outcomes-focused mentality to our hiring efforts - you'll help shape the capabilities of our entire company!
Develop and drive employer branding, sourcing, and outreach campaigns to build strong candidate pipelines - you'll optimize for quality over quantity to keep our efforts laser-focused and efficient.
Lead and iterate on recruiting operations end-to-end - you'll continually explore new ways to help our team make great hiring decisions quickly, while keeping candidates excited about Check.
Guide and advise hiring managers by shaping roles, clarifying scope and requirements, and aligning on a clear and consistent talent bar across teams - you'll be a true partner to hiring managers by building their instincts, judgment, and skills while shepherding them through the recruiting process.
Ensure we're always seeking truth in our recruiting process by leading incisive and insightful intake conversations - you'll draw out spicy takes, challenge assumptions, and set teams up to hire well by driving alignment on Check's philosophies, standards, and needs.
Set and maintain a high performance bar for Talent at Check while moving fast in hiring - you'll keep the big picture in mind, ensuring we make strong long-term staffing decisions and helping us dodge negotiation traps.
Bring ownership to areas of ambiguity and add structure where it is needed - from interviewer training, to candidate debriefs, to hiring retrospectives, to employer branding, you'll have your hands in a little bit of everything, with no shortage of opportunities to get more involved in shaping our team and culture.
Partner closely with the Head of People to build creative and engaging hiring plans, competitive compensation structures, effective training programs, and executive reporting capabilities - you'll continually raise the visibility of the work you do and maximize its impact on every aspect of the business!
Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have most or all of the following:
5+ years of in-house recruiting experience across multiple disciplines (technical and non-technical), preferably in a fast-paced startup or growth-stage environment - you're ready to hit the ground running with open roles across all teams at Check!
Fluency with Greenhouse and LinkedIn Recruiter, and proficiency with emerging recruiting tools and technologies - you're a bit of a tech buff, maybe you'd call yourself an evangelist…
Proven ability to own full-cycle recruiting and operations independently, from role design and sourcing through coordination, closing, and offer management - you like diving into the weeds in your domain to ensure quality and consistency from top to bottom.
Strong sourcing capability, including outbound outreach and pipeline building for hard-to-fill roles - you get creative with how to craft and market an employer brand, and you know how to engage candidates who can thrive in our team environment.
Clear, direct communication and exceptional storytelling - you're equally adept at influencing senior stakeholders and selling candidates on a vision and their path forward at Check.
Strong judgment and the ability to maintain a high talent bar under time pressure - there's urgency, and then there's false urgency. You know the difference, you know how to balance it with uncompromising standards, and you're great at helping others build the same understanding.
A bias toward action and comfort with ambiguity - you're comfortable laying the track when the train is already moving, and always helping our team move faster without sacrificing the integrity of our process.
What we offer:
For full-time employees, Check offers stock options, flexible PTO and sick leave, 9 annual holidays, generous paid parental leave for all new parents and flexible return-to-work, a 401k retirement plan, and a $100 monthly stipend for home internet and mobile phone expenses. We also provide high-quality medical, dental, vision, short-term/long-term disability, and basic life insurance coverage, effective on your first day of work.
At Check, transparency and fairness in compensation are our top priorities: our compensation bands are visible to all employees across all roles. The actual annual salary for this role is dependent on each candidate's experience, qualifications, and work location:
The expected range in San Francisco, NYC, LA, and Seattle is between $144,000 and $158,400.
The expected range for all other locations is between $122,500 and $155,000.
Travel and Office Policy
The Check team is distributed across the US, and we have offices in New York City and San Francisco. While we embrace remote work, we believe time together in person is where we do our best work. We offer ample opportunities and encourage employees to attend team off-sites, events, and hackathons a couple of times a year! We expect all employees to attend our annual 3-day company retreat in the spring.
For our in-office and hybrid employees, our offices are open all week. We provide meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the team hosts regular happy hours, game nights, etc.
We accept applications on an ongoing basis with no specified deadline.
Remote work at Check requires the ability to perform all responsibilities without distraction or disruption, while maintaining quality, effective communication, and productivity.
Check is proud to be an Equal Opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, gender expression, transgender status, sexual stereotypes, age, status as a protected veteran, status as an individual with a disability, or other applicable legally protected characteristics. We also consider qualified applicants with criminal histories, provided they are consistent with applicable federal, state, and local laws. Check is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities in our recruiting process.
Check participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information from all new employees to confirm that they are authorized to work in the U.S. Check does not use E-Verify to pre-screen applicants.

Check job in New York, NY
Building at Check At Check, we make paying people simple. In doing that, we're not just building our own business- we're building payroll businesses together with every one of our partners. Check is far more than just API infrastructure. We're a springboard for building and scaling payroll businesses.
Our Team
Payroll is broken. Come fix it alongside a team that's as passionate as you are! At Check, you'll use creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and grit to impact every business we build. We view problems to solve and jobs to be done as opportunities to contribute to the solution; we ignore conventional role boundaries in favor of the unique strengths and value each builder brings to our team and to our mission.
Join us if you're ready to roll up your sleeves and redefine payroll. Let's simplify the complex, make a real impact, and create a better future for businesses of every size.
As a Partner Success Manager at Check, you are the owner and advocate for our Partners. In the past, payroll products took several years of tedious work and cost millions of dollars to build. With Check, our partners are building best-in-class solutions in just months, and generating revenue from their payroll business as a result. In order for that revenue to be realized, Partner Success must build strong bridges across our mutual teams and resources. They do this by seeing around corners, getting ahead of risk when possible, and creating strategies after analyzing root causes.
You'll manage these partners by establishing and maintaining a communication cadence with your portfolio, and provide proactive reporting on their status internally. Candidates ideal for this role are tenacious about growth, are goal-oriented, and have experience building detailed plans with Partners/customers. We expect our team to roll up their sleeves and execute with a high degree of autonomy, sharing information and knowledge early and often with peers and stakeholders. You will work closely with several cross-functional internal and external teams including Sales, Product, Operations, Compliance, Marketing, Enablement, and others.
In this role, you will:
* Execute all phases of the post-sales Partner lifecycle, including ownership of a target, negotiations, and account (partner) management
* Earn the trust of our Partners and build in-depth relationships by maintaining a complete understanding of their business goals and objectives
* Consult on our Partners' payroll business by investigating the root cause of blockers, outlining and selling Partners on the appropriate strategies to unblock inefficiencies and revenue, and creating strategic execution plans
* Outline mutual success metrics/KPIs with our Partners that align their and Check's revenue/growth goals
* Become a product and industry expert, and act as a trusted advisor to ensure every Partner is leveraging the full value of Check
* Develop, execute, and maintain a communication cadence with your portfolio of Partners
* Inform cross-functional counterparts on focus areas relative to Partner needs and pain points
* Identify, clearly communicate, and manage risk throughout the year through proactive touchpoints and taking the lead in developing resolution strategies
* Partner with cross-functional teams to build appropriate communication plans including but not limited to releases, roadmap updates, compliance updates, and incident management
* Introduce and implement new products and features to your Partners, evaluate their success, and navigate feedback channels with them and Check's Product team
* Be the connecting element between our Partners' most important payroll functions in their business: Operations, Sales/GTM, Business Operations, Product, etc.
* Maintain strong reference ability across your portfolio, ensuring Check and Partner Product Marketing teams have opportunities to work together
Many backgrounds could fit this role, but ideal candidates will have most or all of the following:

* Experience owning the full account lifecycle, with a track record of exceeding revenue targets, goals or quotas
* Empathy and genuine care for partners - you view their success as your own
* Ability to navigate the political landscape of our enterprise partner organizations, and to develop and expand meaningful relationships
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Fluency or familiarity with Check's primary software applications i.e. Zendesk, Google Workspace, Notion, etc.
* Strong documentation muscle - you default to written record as a regular practice and maintain clean notes in tools like CRMs
* Enthusiasm for planning, adjusting, executing, winning, and celebrating as a team
* Ability to work from Check's offices in New York or San Francisco a minimum of 2 days per week
* Ability to travel as required, up to 25% of the time during busy periods, including to Check's annual company retreat in Mexico each spring
