CHEER company history timeline

1972

In 1972 competitive cheerleading took off with the passing of the Title IX rule

1974

In 1974, Jeff Webb (who had been general manager of NCA) founded Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), which taught higher level skills.

1976

National Dance Alliance National Dance Alliance (NDA) was founded in 1976 by Lawrence Herkimer and originally named NCA superstar.

1978

In 1978 the first competitive cheerleading competition was aired on TV by CBS

1979

Founded in 1979 by Jeff Webb, Varsity Spirit Fashions introduced a new, bold look in cheer uniform designs that complemented UCA™’s youthful, athletic image in the spirit industry.

1980

Universal Dance Association Universal Dance Association (UDA) began as dance camps founded by Jeff Webb and Kris Shepherd in 1980.

In the early 1980’s, UCA published a set of safety guidelines for cheerleaders.

1985

American Cheer Power American Cheer Power was started in 1985 by Regina Symons.

UDA created the National Dance Team Championship (NDTC) in 1985, and it’s now the largest dance team event of its kind.

1987

In 1987, the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors (AACCA) was formed to develop, promote, and educate coaches in the areas of safety rules and risk minimization.

1988

Cheerleading in Poland begun in 1988, when first team was founded by Edward and Ruta Krajewski in Warsaw.

1990

Doctor Gerald S. George was selected to be the senior editor of the first AACCA Cheerleading Safety Manual, published in 1990, and to develop a training course for coaches.

1991

Cheerleading Technique Camps Cheerleading Technique Camps (CTC) was founded in 1991 by Jim Thorp with the vision of specializing in creating custom private camps for cheerleading teams.

1992

Spirit Xpress Cheerleading Spirit Xpress Cheerleading was founded in 1992 by Don Collins.

1998

Spirit Cheer Spirit Cheer was founded in 1998 by Mark Pare.

2000

All Star Challenge All Star Challenge was founded in 2000 by Don Collins.

2002

Athletic Championships Athletic Championships was started in 2002 by Mike Martinez and is the largest provider of two day cheer and dance national competitions.

2003

In order to emphasize safety, in 2003 a national council was formed to offer safety workshops to athletes that wanted them

2004

As television broadcasts like the cheerleading championships seen on ESPN reached across the globe, interest in cheerleading grew abroad. It expanded so quickly that in 2004, the International Cheer Union (ICU) was formed to provide a global governing body for cheer.

2005

Becoming a member of European Cheerleading Association (ECA) in 2005 was a break through moment for PCA. It was the first time when Polish national team took part in European Cheerleading Championships in Moscow.

2006

Founded in 2006, Ozone has become the source for original All Star cheerleading uniforms for gyms across the country.

2007

In 2007, USA Cheer was formed with one of its missions being the promotion of safety and safety education for cheer in the United States.

2009

Formal recognition as the governing body for the USA was granted by the ICU in 2009.

2011

In 2011 a new discipline of cheer called STUNT was developed to provide additional opportunities to participate in cheer.

2018

Polish Cheerleading Sport Association (PCSA) was founded in March 2018 by four associations: Polish Dance Federation, Students Sports Club Duet, Students Dancing Sports Club Shock Dance Szczecin and Sports Club Gravitation.

2020

On 21st of November 2020 Polish Cheerleading Association signed an official agreement with Polish Cheerleading Sport Assocaition to cooperate in order to develop cheerleading in Poland.

First cooperation was organization of mutual judges workshop in December 2020.
