**Overview**

Element has an opportunity for **Chemist II-Bioassays** at our Ann Arbor, MI location. The Chemist II will develop analytical methods, perform testing using a variety of technologies and draw conclusions based upon analytical data. Work is performed under the supervision of the lab manager.

**Responsibilities**

+ Performs techniques spanning across the entire spectrum of analytical chemistry from wet chemistry to HPLC, NMR, Mass Spectrometry, FTIR, GC and GC-MS

+ Perform testing using a variety of technologies including HPLC, LC-MS, GC, GC/MS, Microscopy, FTIR and UV

+ Execute projects in support of client needs including product deformulation and product development, failure analysis and problem solving, impurity identification, extractable and leachable studies, and structural characterization

**Skills / Qualifications**

+ BS with 0-2 years experience

+ Effective scientific writer (experience with report writing)

+ Effective oral presenter (experience with scientific presentations)

+ Effective time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

To produce chemical batches for wet wipe manufacturing, maintain chemical inventory, monitor and control performance on water purification system. This is a safety sensitive position.

This position primarily interacts with Operations, but also requires interaction with all support departments including but not limited to Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Human Resources.
Produce and maintain supply of wet wipe solution for production.

Receive Liquid Batch and produce Shop Orders through BPCS.

Issue raw materials to Shop Order through Warehouse Management System(WMS)

Enter Shop Ticket numbers into WMS and issue liquid to the Shop Ticket

Know and understand liquid transport system, label the piping, as well as maintain labeling as system changes

Monitor, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance on Ultra Purified Water(UPW) system.

Maintain computer records on liquid lots and production yields.

Able to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Drawings(P&ID) or blueprints.

Assist production with the sanitization of equipment

Maintain cleaning and sanitization logs for the compounding room

Know and understand waste water permit requirements

Test and discharge waste water

Verify accuracy of flow meters used with the compounding systems

Maintain forklift certification and knowledge of forklift operator responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

High School Diploma or equivalent

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

Good Computer Skills, Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and how to retrieve information form them

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Prior experience in Chemical Compounding, proven ability to follow written complex instructions or versed knowledge of liquid delivery/wetting systems preferred.

Stable work history.

Manufacturing experience

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Good math skills, ability to understand, interpret, and follow batch instructions. Good Communication skills, Adaptable to and positive toward change. Ability to work in a team-focused environment. Must be able to lift 50lbs.

NONE:

No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. Repeated risk of exposure to chemicals used in wet wipe formulation as well as concentrated sanitization and other cleaning materials.

v Performs and completes inspections as required.

v Operates machines to fill containers with cement.

v Operates guillotine machine to slit rubber.

v Operates various other machines, including mill.

v Set-up and change over machines as required.

v Completes necessary forms and paperwork.

v Attention to detail and ability to follow directions.

v Monitor quality of materials throughout the manufacturing process.

v Use and maintain digital scales.

v Hand label cans and packaging.

v Must be able to handle and move heavy and awkward objects, i.e. 55-gallon drums.

v Ability to interact reasonably and in a cooperative manner with co-workers and customers.

v Keep area clean and free from safety hazards.

v Drive forklift as necessary.
