A qualified Development Chemist candidate will have 2-4 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment:

  • Analyze compounds and record data, including competitors when needed, to determine physical and chemical properties for development of compounds
  • Responsible for developing and issuing new formulations for new compounds based on requirements and specifications from customers (FDA, Automotive & W/C specifications) and market demands
  • Investigate applicability of new formulations and past formulations in replacement of raw materials to enhance performance and minimize cost, keeping quality standards
  • Responsible for issuing raw materials substitutions when needed
  • Generate new ideas for new product development of compounds and researching feasibility in terms of profitability, resource availability and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for evaluating formulations via proper lab verification methods. Do necessary adjustments along the way of evaluation. Make recommendations for improvements in process for pilot line or production line trial formulation.
  • Evaluate production trial compounds for designed chemical, physical and rheological properties
  • Provides technical support internally/externally to Production, QC/QA, Sales and customers for cost savings, raw material evaluation and raw material substitution

Development Chemist Required Skills/Education & Abilities:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry
  • Technical knowledge with PVC material and application experience in formulating
  • Ability to research, evaluate and implement new compounds
  • Expertise in chemistry, understand surface-interface properties and surface characterization
  • Must have experience with roll mill, hot press, tensile tester, impact tester, color eyes and other lab device needed for formulations.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILIES:

The R&D Chemist is a key member of the company’s Research and Development Team. The primary responsibilities required for this role are:

  • Review new Product development requests (PDR’s) and collaborates with SE’s for additional clarification; assign tentative project completion dates.
  • Develop new formulations utilizing in-depth knowledge of chemical Ingredients and processes that meets the desired technical and aesthetic attributes specified by customers on PDR.
  • Prepare lab batches of formulas needed for submitting samples for customer analysis within lab schedule, and reformulating / resubmitting them based on customer’s feedback.
  • Maintain detailed and organized lab notebook with detailed observations while making lab batch.
  • Develop detailed lab scale process for success including order of addition, critical raw materials and processing parameters, bench standard and benchmark, and lab scale preliminary specification and test results
  • Provide SE and customer technical support, participation on account teams and teleconferences
  • Work closely and collaboratively with lab technicians, to teach, coordinate and collaborate on projects leading to well-planned and executed bench work and successful sample submissions
  • Perform and monitor stability with lab technician, utilizing approved stability protocol, and re-formulate if initial formula is unstable.
  • Meet with raw material vendors to learn about new technologies and new raw materials that can be utilized to create/improve Bentley’s innovative technology offerings.
  • Communicate all information regarding formulation, project status, costing, and results to all appropriate individuals, maintaining confidentiality requirements.
  • Collaborate as a key team member across the R&D department, contributing innovative ideas, expertise, knowledge, experiences with strong team spirit, and pride in organization’s contribution to the company
  • Perform/Monitor calibration and validation of all lab instruments with Lab Technicians.
  • Maintain clean, safe and well-organized lab working area.

Position Description: The Method Development Chemist functions as a key member of the R&D team and is responsible for providing analytical expertise and technical support for all aspects of GLS' analytical capabilities. Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 to 10 years of relevant work experience, dependent on education.
  • Significant hands-on experience in analytical method development and validation together with the ability to problem-solve and think creatively in the absence of technical guidelines.
  • Must have solid GC, LC, MS, MS/MS and/or ICP-MS experience, including routine to advanced maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Self-starter, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, the ability to multitask, with effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are all required to be successful in this role.
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and cGMP desired
