**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

+ Entry level wet chemistry laboratory duties including pH, moisture, oxidation, titration

+ Daily processing of samples to include fuel compatibility, bomb calorimetry, GC analysis, metals analysis

+ Daily equipment calibration

+ Calorimeter, pH meter, GC-MS, GC-FID

+ Additional laboratory support in the areas of standards preparation, record keeping and other general laboratory duties

**QUALIFICATIONS**

+ Must be willing to work in an industrial setting with limited outside exposure and be willing to handle hazardous and non-hazardous wastes with appropriate PPE

Job Description

The Regeneration Services (RGS) business operates sulfuric acid plants and has a Regional Laboratory located at the Burnside Plant facility (near Baton Rouge, Louisiana). The sites produce a variety of sulfuric acid strengths, both fuming and non-fuming. The plants services a variety of users which include health care, pharmaceuticals, industrial chemical manufactures, and refiners. Analytical testing of the sulfuric acid products is necessary to meet Veolia corporate specifications along with customer specifications.

The Laboratory Technician/Chemist in this position will provide technician expertise for the analytical testing of sulfuric acid samples (fuming, non-fuming and spent) from the

Burnside Plant Site and the six (6) other Veolia N.A. Sulfuric Acid production plant sites.

The Laboratory Technician/Chemist should be willing to adapt to business needs (addition of plant sites and/or site process) that will increase the amount of routine analytical testing and laboratory research and development.

As a Laboratory Technician/Chemist, functioning as a part of a technology team, conducting and documenting analysis or experiments in a safe and environmentally responsible manner is imperative.

The Laboratory Technician/Chemist will use analytical instrumentation to provide data for product quality and process capability. The Technician/Chemist is responsible for using chemistry-based knowledge to aid in designing experiments, data analysis, and analytical testing methodologies to solve problems in support of production or customer service. It will be expected that the laboratory technician can interpret and analyze results, recognize erroneous or unexpected results, troubleshoot equipment and make suggestions on the paths forward based on analysis and conclusions.

All seven (7) sulfuric acid production plants are a 24 hour operating facility, if deemed necessary by production, the Laboratory Technician/Chemist position may require availability on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

1. In depth knowledge of analytical chemistry

2. Ability to conduct and interpret analytical testing in accordance with established instrumental and wet chemistry methods and procedures

3. Capable of performing instrumentation troubleshooting and routine maintenance

4. An ability to provide laboratory technical support for business development and perform other laboratory analysis as requested

5. Assist in executing method development experiments

6. Enter laboratory data/results into laboratory management system and capable of completing various documents, files, and reports.

7. Assist in periodic laboratory audits

8. Actively participate in continuous process improvement initiatives

9. Perform any other related or general task at the request of the supervisor. Ability to presentation to internal (and occasional external) project teams.

10. Business Travel to other plant sites (~5-10%)

● Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or related discipline required

● MS in Analytical Chemistry preferred

● 5 years experience in the Laboratory, testing or related work experience

preferred.

● Must have current and valid driver's license

Demonstrate strong technical writing skills (create and prepare reports)

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices

Strong time management for managing multiple deadlines

Experience with a variety of analytical instrumentation:

o Inductively Coupled Plasma- Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)

o Titrations

o Total Organic Carbon (TOC)

o Chromatography (IC and GC)

o UV-Vis Spectroscopy

Experience working with laboratory computer software, e.g. ChemStation,

BlazeLIMS, SampleManager, SAP, etc.

Knowledge of ISO certification standards

Sense of observation and analytical skills needed

Have a strong work ethic

Work well in team environments

Demonstrate the ability to work independently

Conduct work in a safe and efficient manner

Indoor lab setting, office environment.

Gas cylinder handling in support of lab equipment.
