POSITION SUMMARY
Effectively teach Biology courses in traditional, blended, and online formats. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach approved courses using applied learning methods in accordance with the course objectives, the established syllabus, the schedule of classes, and other College and program requirements. Instruct in a variety of learning environments, both on- and off-campus, which may include web-based, high schools, correctional institutions, etc.
Demonstrate ability and expertise in one's discipline and enthusiasm and creativity in teaching to create an environment that motivates students to learn. Manage the classroom and maintain records including preparing and updating course syllabi, course materials, technology, and web-based courses.
Develop, coordinate, and maintain Biology curricula, laboratory spaces, program review, and assessment to assess student academic achievement. Serve as course coordinator for courses assigned by the Department Director and mentor adjunct and CCP faculty who teach those courses.
Evaluate student learning and performance in accordance with course syllabi and institutional assessment plans; maintain accurate academic records; analyze results to guide student progress, develop and implement strategies to improve learning in collaboration with faculty, and support student recruitment and retention efforts.
Participate in on-going evaluation and continuous improvement of teaching methodology, curricula, and assessment, including course updating, development, and elimination. Review literature, professional standards, and workplace expectations to ensure that teaching and learning reflects prevailing business and industry practice and standards.
Maintain laboratory facilities and equipment, conduct an on-going inventory assessment, and order all materials necessary to keep the laboratory learning-ready. Prepare activities for the student laboratory experience, in accordance with course syllabi.
Maintain a safe and controlled laboratory environment by preparing and supervising all lab activities, operating and maintaining equipment, enforcing safety protocols, and ensuring that the laboratory is organized, stocked, and ready for student use at all times, protecting both students and instructors.
Assist with the planning, development, and implementation of departmental goals. Contribute to the use and continuous improvement of online learning, including the strategic planning and development of online education.
Maintain and make available a current schedule to accommodate student learning needs, including office hours, on- and off-campus meetings, classes, etc. in accordance with the annual faculty service days' schedule. Flexibility to meet academic classroom schedules and off-campus sites.
Engage in the assessment of community and regional educational needs and assist the department in meeting those needs consistent with the College mission and department purposes. Work with department faculty to develop new programs and certificates.

Partner with campus and community activities, including student recruitment and public speaking requests, and serve on State, College, and community committees. Serve on internal and external committees as assigned, including community service.
Utilize instructional plans, direct and assess student progress in achieving theory and performance requirements of the program. Demonstrate knowledge in course content, direct and evaluate student learning, and thorough understanding of educational theory and techniques.
Create and pursue a plan for professional development and continuing education to keep pace with changes and advances in teaching, learning, and in one's technical specialty or discipline. Willingness to dedicate and commit to pursue continuing education, which may include higher educational degrees, certifications, and advance current knowledge of and practice in the discipline.

ACADEMIC WORKLOAD REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 80% of the position directly or indirectly involves responsibilities pertaining to the teaching, learning, and daily operation of the program(s). The remaining 20% involves duties as listed above including but not limited to committee work, meetings, office hours, and advising.
This position is expected to instruct a minimum of 15 workload hours per week for both fall and spring terms.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Biological Sciences (evolution, ecology, or organismal biology, preferred) required; or a Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a science-related discipline with 18 credit graduate credit hours in biology required. Related terminal or professional degree from a regionally accredited college or university (ex: Ph.D., M.D., D.O). Applicants need to be comfortable teaching introductory biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology and the majors level biology sequence.
Professional work or teaching experience in biology strongly preferred. Exhibit excellent English, communication, and writing skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with strong computer and related technology skills required. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and complete projects with minimal direction and oversight. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Candidate must successfully pass a FBI/BCI and other background checks, prior to and after employment. Valid driver's license or dependable transportation required.
