JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Behrend offers classes in advertising and public relations, anthropology, the arts, biobehavioral health, communication, creative writing, criminology, digital technologies, education, English, foreign languages, game design, history, journalism, literature, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, and women's/gender studies. We anticipate a need for part-time instructors in some of these disciplines for the 2025-2026 academic year. Please contact the department at ***************** for current needs.
The positions are dependent on class enrollments, low enrollments may necessitate cancelling the class and position. Salary is competitive.
Responsibilities include creating and using a syllabus and course materials approved by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to teach courses, delivering high-quality instruction in assigned courses, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment, providing timely feedback and academic support to students, and collaborating with faculty and adhere to departmental standards.
Required qualifications include an earned Master's degree or equivalent education/experience, a commitment to excellence in teaching, including use of current technology, strong communication skills and commitment to student success, and evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach approved courses using applied learning methods in accordance with the course objectives, the established syllabus, the schedule of classes, and other College and program requirements. Maintain laboratory facilities and equipment, conduct an on-going inventory assessment, and order all materials necessary to keep the laboratory learning-ready. Prepare activities for the student laboratory experience, in accordance with course syllabi.
Maintain a safe and controlled laboratory environment by preparing and supervising all lab activities, operating and maintaining equipment, enforcing safety protocols, and ensuring that the laboratory is organized, stocked, and ready for student use at all times, protecting both students and instructors.

ACADEMIC WORKLOAD REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 80% of the position directly or indirectly involves responsibilities pertaining to the teaching, learning, and daily operation of the program(s). The remaining 20% involves duties as listed above including but not limited to committee work, meetings, office hours, and advising.
This position is expected to instruct a minimum of 15 workload hours per week for both fall and spring terms.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Biological Sciences (evolution, ecology, or organismal biology, preferred) required; or a Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in a science-related discipline with 18 credit graduate credit hours in biology required. Related terminal or professional degree from a regionally accredited college or university (ex: Ph.D., M.D., D.O). Applicants need to be comfortable teaching introductory biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology and the majors level biology sequence.
Professional work or teaching experience in biology strongly preferred. Exhibit excellent English, communication, and writing skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with strong computer and related technology skills required. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and complete projects with minimal direction and oversight. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Candidate must successfully pass a FBI/BCI and other background checks, prior to and after employment. Valid driver's license or dependable transportation required. PART-TIME FACULTY - BIOLOGY
COURSE DESCRIPTION(S): A variety of class days and times are available.
BIOL 2210 - Anatomy/Physiology 1: (6 contact hours: 3 lecture, 3 lab) 5.67 units of load
This course introduces the organization of the human body in the context of the unifying concepts of feedback regulation and homeostasis. The course assumes a general knowledge of cell structure and function and begins with a study of tissues and a general introduction to organs and systems. It then provides detailed study of the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems. This course has both a lecture and laboratory component.
BIOL 2220 - Anatomy/Physiology 2: (6 contact hours: 3 lecture, 3 lab) 5.67 units of load
This course continues the study of the human body begun in BIOL 2210 Anatomy and Physiology I. The course examines the relationships between endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, reproductive and urinary body systems along with the regulatory mechanisms which integrate them. The course also includes considerations of nutrient absorption and delivery, metabolism, excretory function, and acid-base balance. This course has both a lecture and laboratory component.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: 1) Master's degree in Biology; 2) College-level teaching experience in one of the specific biological disciplines. Preferred: 1) Experience teaching at the community college level; 2) Broad-based training/teaching experience in biology
COMPENSATION: Part-time faculty members are paid $769/unit of load.

The Division of Chemistry in the Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences at Youngstown State University seeks a motivated individual with outstanding teaching skills to provide instruction primarily in our general and organic chemistry lectures and lab courses, including potentially serving as lab coordinator, depending on need.
The YSU Division of Chemistry in the Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences is comprised of 12 full-time tenure track faculty, 2 lecturers, 4 staff members, over 50 majors in its BS and BA programs and an active MS program with 14 students. The department is exceptionally well-equipped in research instrumentation, and offers a rich, hands-on 'learning through research' experience for its students. As part of the College of STEM, the department also participates in the YSU Ph.D. program in Materials Science & Engineering.
Position Information
Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments, and university officials via university provided tools and resources.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday, including some evenings, and the possibility of some weekend days.

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None
Minimum Qualifications: At least a master's degree in chemistry, or closely related discipline, by the time of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry or closely related discipline. Experience in teaching chemistry.

Duties And Responsibilities The successful candidate will play a critical leadership role in the development and growth of our Data Science and Analytics curriculum and student outcomes, including: Teach a variety of undergraduate courses. Potential courses include data mining, big data and cloud computing, or agentic development. Assist with crafting and implementing a vision for the Data Science and Analytics program, guiding its strategic direction and evolution. Keep up to date on trends in Data Science & Machine Learning, given traditional DS techniques are being handled by AI (e.g. exploratory data analysis, outlier detection, etc.). Collaborate with the Career Center to help establish industry partnerships, serving as a key industry liaison to facilitate internships and career opportunities for students. Mentor and advise students pursuing careers in data science and analytics. Contribute to departmental and university service, including participating in cross-university data initiatives.
Required Qualifications
A Master's degree in a related field. Experience communicating findings effectively in the professional world. Interest and enthusiasm in working with undergraduate students in a liberal arts environment. Familiarity with strong pedagogical practices, including active learning approaches.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior teaching experience as an instructor of record at the undergraduate level. Industry experience in data science or an adjacent analytical field. Evidence of effective teaching, training, or mentoring at the college level or in professional settings.
