Chester Community Charter School Leadership

Dr. Curtis Callands was the Vice President and Assistant Chief Academic Officer of CSMI. Curtis oversees the development and implementation of effective instructional policies and practices, common core curriculum, student achievement, and academic-technology programs.He joined CSMI after serving as the Elementary Principal and former Middle School Assistant Principal at the Chester Community Charter Schools located Pennsylvania. During his tenure at CCCS, Mr. Callands has diligently cultivated habits of excellence within his staff members and students. As an instrumental member of the ICONS (Intellectuals Committed to Optimizing Networking & Social Empowerment), Curtis facilitates the operation of the Heritage Bowl and community outreach programs for urban youth. His passion is his alarm clock that invigorates his drive towards cultivating habits of diligence within children.Prior to joining CCCS, Curtis distinguished himself as a dedicated educational leader with a drive towards excelling students’ academic performance. As an instructional coach, Curtis empowers principals, students, and staff to engage each other in relationship building activities designed to avoid conflict and maintain a positive school culture. He began his career at the North Penn School District as a Special Education Teacher at an alternative middle/high school and worked his summers at the Devereux Institution and Montgomery County Detention Center with adjudicated delinquent boys. He possesses a gift towards transforming our troubled youth into effective leaders in society. Curtis heart pumps vigorous passion and produces positive change in urban education. He has established robust relationships with parents and the community through his civil services as a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Curtis models the famous quote by Dr. Cornel West, “You can't lead the people if you don't love the people. You can't save the people if you don't serve the people.”
