This job can be described as: At Chesterton, we have a laser focus on our customers. The Material Handler I is a frontline manufacturing position responsible for accurately processes the intake, transfer, and storage of all mechanical seal components and packaging in accordance with company procedures and expected time frames. This includes but is not limited to: performing computer transactions on manufacturing orders, putting stock away in defined inventory locations, pulling components for customer orders, and packing and shipping items as requested. Job Model: On-Site All fully remote positions will require you to travel on site 2-4 times per month depending upon business needs at your own expense. Hybrid positions will require employees to work both on-site and remote each week under a schedule that has been determined and agreed upon by you and your manager. On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts. A typical day at work would include: * Accurately transacts data daily related to incoming and stocking items in Company's internal Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). * Verifies receipt of materials against packing lists to ensure accuracy in inventory transactions. * Working closely with Mechanical Seal Team Members, resolves issues related to transactions, inventory discrepancies, and overall material movement within the cell, (ex. conducts root cause analysis on missing inventory). * Maintains accurate inventory through transactions in applicable systems and ensures proper placement and labeling of materials. * Rotates materials for shipments and storage in accordance with accounting standards (FIFO). * Operates forklift to return empty pallets to the loading dock area for reuse or removal and as needed to support the business. * Maintains stock of packaging supplies by doing a daily inventory of the packaging stations and resupplying as needed. * Conducts daily, system generated cycle counts of inventory and reports information to a data processor. * Accurately Picks / Packs component and customer orders in accordance with department procedures and quality metrics and using proper packaging and labeling methods. * Physically scraps items in accordance with company procedures and transacts out damaged products. * Coordinates with facilities group to ensure trash and recycling is removed from prescribed area. * Inspects equipment daily used in the function of their jobs. i.e. Fork Truck, Pallet Jack, etc. * May perform other manufacturing support functions as needed. Experience you need coming into this job: * 1-2 years' experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. * High School, Trade School, or equivalent experience. * Works under direct supervision and follows detailed written and/or verbal instructions/procedures which will ensure safety on the job and efficient, effective inventory management process. * Must be able to lift 50 lbs. as needed for the role. * Experience using a computer with menu driven business systems desired. * Ability to operate a computer / keyboard in accordance to the standards and requirements of the job. * Experience with ERP software is a plus. * Ability to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions. * Basic math skills required. * Abides by safe material handling techniques when managing materials and supplies. * Ability to obtain a forklift license (company will provide training). * Ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced manufacturing operation. Able work in noisy environments with no air conditioning during summer months. The ability to interpret inspection requirements from blueprints/drawings, sketches and Engineering Specifications. Indicates acceptance or rejection of material based on the quality inspection procedure requirements. Conducts special or non-standard tests. Assists in set up, design and conducting experiments and records data according to test plans. Job Model: On-Site On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts. A typical day at work would include: * Operates Numerical Control machine tools including lathes and millers. Does tool set up involving changing inserts, end mills, drills, counter sinks, etc. * Operates machine controller to download (electronically transfer) part program files. * Performs minor set-ups that include changing fixtures on the miller and work holding on lathes, changing tool holders on both lathes and millers, and make electronic tooling offsets to adjust tool position and piece part characteristics. * Performs work from operation and planning packages, which include process sheets, tooling lists, set-up sheets, program code and blueprints. * Inspects work and performs Quality checks and records data per inspection plans as required. Makes necessary changes to tooling, offsets, feeds, and speeds to produce in spec parts. * Exercises independent judgment in determining adjustments to be made to machinery to produce parts to meet drawing dimensions. Must support Chesterton Quality Policies. * Maintains safe and clean work area on a daily basis. Keeps informed of and follows machine shop safety policies and procedures. * Checks own work with Inspection tools, gauges, micrometers, indicators, etc., and has work cross- checked by a Quality Control Inspector. Also does a visual inspection to ensure parts meet are free of defects and cleaned. * May be required to deburr parts. * May be required to perform other manufacturing support functions as needed. * This specific role/function is subject to our On-Call Policy and may be required to remain available during off-schedule hours to support the business needs. Experience you need coming into this job: * Minimum of 5 years' experience with Numerical Control machines in a Manufacturing/Machine Shop. * Works under general supervision. May take direction from supervisor, Lead, or trainer. * Ability to follow detailed operation process planning, written, and/or verbal instructions. * Requires a solid understanding of Numerical Control Programs and be able to read and understand machine code. * Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and blueprints. * Requires general math skills. * Ability to work in Machine Shop Environment. * Ability to exercise independent judgment in the manufacturing of components. * Interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others in a team environment. * Requires lifting parts, tools, and fixtures weighing up to 35 lbs. * Ability to work in an uncomfortable environment, i.e., extreme heat, cold, and noise.
