Position Scope
This is an in-office position that works out of the Gurnee, IL manufacturing site that reports directly to our Engineering Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position is very much one of being a working supervisor. While supervising contracted personnel, both professional and hands-on, the individual is expected to maintain a sizable project load.
Direct or oversight responsibility for many of the capital projects undertaken at Vantage Oleochemicals. The normal flow of events in a project may include: completion of project design and developing a firm cost estimate, firm project design and a commitment on equipment, developing bid packages and going to contractors for bids on equipment and installation, coordinating and checking the actual construction, start-up and modifications of finished equipment and an Advice of Physical Completion for the project, and recommending routing maintenance, spare parts, listing necessary information and a financial closing (over or under estimate and why). May act as a Field Construction Manager or, in some cases, the Commissioning Manager.
In the area of technical assistance, the incumbent investigates problems of a production, maintenance or technical nature, such as equipment failure or a process bottleneck.
Problem Solving:
Study existing situations (equipment, processes, manufacturing procedures, etc.), considering possible improvements or modifications, and preparing reports complete with conclusions and recommendations as a result of studies.
Incumbent plans or assist in planning the approach to projects or segments of projects assigned by supervisor and for plant turnarounds.
When assigned complete responsibility for small projects, supervises and participates in all aspects of the projects from inception to start-up (designs, estimates, calculations, test runs, etc.) and resolves all problems encountered.
Works routinely with other department heads and managers to assist in formulation of Vantage Oleochemicals' capital plan and refines proposals for submittal.
Accountability:
While reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, there remains a strong dotted line to the site manager and his staff. Actions taken and plans developed must be formulated with an eye to the site manager being the real customer.
Responsible for assisting in the development of technical improvements in equipment, processes, manufacturing procedures, etc. Directly affects profits by assisting in trouble-shooting equipment and/or process malfunctions and thereby restoring the plant to maximum operating efficiency. Responsible for adherence to safety and health rules & regulations.
Financial Responsibility:
Plays a major role in executing the Capital budget of approximately $10 Million per annum. Annually supervises or participates in 10-12 small ($25,000 or less) construction projects from inception to start-up. Annually manages 1 or 2 major ($.5MM and up) projects, assuming total responsibility for cost, scope, and technical success.
Education & Experience:
Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
Experience:
Minimum 5 to 10 years of engineering experience.
Supervisory experience with small groups desirable.
Well-developed human relations and communications skills.
Experience in the chemical industry or other process plants, with related technologies is strongly preferred.

Role Description
We are seeking an experienced projectengineer to lead the engineering of utility-scale projects utilizing Form's multi-day energy storage product. This role will sit within our ProjectEngineering organization which is responsible for the deployment, commissioning, and operations of Form Energy's customer projects. In this role, you will oversee projectengineering from early conceptual design through detailed design and execution. You will take the lead in managing and solving technical challenges related to the design, engineering, procurement, and construction of pilot and commercial scale projects. You will work closely with EPC partners to align plant-level design with product requirements.
This is a critical role to ensure the successful execution and deployment of Form's multi-day battery product and its integration with customer systems. The ideal candidate should be comfortable communicating frequently with internal and external stakeholders and shall be capable of working both collaboratively and independently.
What you'll do:
Create conceptual project layouts and single line diagrams and support interconnection and permitting applications, long lead equipment specifications and procurement, and design and construction RFP creation
Lead the development and own the balance of plant design package, including site civil/structural, mechanical, electrical, and network architecture designs, ensuring compliance with project and product requirements and other applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards
Provide technical support during project execution, including reviewing RFIs, submittals, field quality checks, site safety planning, and supporting commissioning
Support Project Manager from initial planning to commercial operation, especially with document control, budget oversight, quality control, schedule, contract management and value engineering for budget and schedule optimization
Work closely with Form's Product Engineering and Product Management teams to document product requirements and technical specifications
Travel to client or project sites up to 30% of the time
What you'll bring:
7+ years of experience in renewable energy projectengineering or deployment and a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical engineering
Demonstrated track record of executing utility-scale energy storage and/or renewable energy projects from development to operation, including feasibility studies, project planning, preliminary design, detailed design and engineering, permitting, and interconnection
Strong knowledge of codes and standards for ESS installation, including NFPA70, NFPA 855, IEEE 1547, IEEE 2800, UL9540, UL9540A

Responsibilities
Demonstrated ability to effectively work with suppliers, outside contractors and stakeholders and recommend development of best practices to improve assembly/manufacturing methods and procedures.
Impacts the achievement of part design related to design for assembly/manufacturing, error proofing, fixture design, and incorporating quality monitoring and improvement measures to drive results.
Works independently and as part of a team on complex projects.
Collaborate with partner groups in development and review of manufacturing process for new products, design changes, or new manufacturing methods.
Recommend, evaluate, and implement new technologies to improve efficiency or enhance flexibility of manufacturing operations with a focus on launch site capability.
Partner with leadership, operations and engineering teams to ensure that new equipment projects align with the manufacturing strategy and build plans.
Be accountable to deliver operability, reliability, and functional integrity of automated manufacturing equipment for handover to operations.
Lead facility expansion efforts to support scaling of manufacturing sites, new and existing.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred
Minimum of 10 years' experience
Experience and understanding of complex automated manufacturing systems and components (electrical and pneumatic control, PLC and HMI devices, sensors, servo motors, vision systems, and robotics)
Good understanding of supporting processes associated with the operations and maintenance of a production plant.
Experience in manufacturing engineering and plant operations with direct experience in automated production processes, equipment support, and manufacturing best practices.
Proficiency in use of AutoCAD

Work together with building owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders including project managers, energy modelers, sustainability consultants, and accessibility consultants.
Support project teams by reviewing technical calculations for accuracy, assisting with application reviews, and communicating with program participants to ensure documentation aligns with guidelines.
Who You Are:
Bachelor s degree in engineering or related science degree.

Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to type, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
