About the Opportunity: The Mayor's Office of Labor Relations, led by the Deputy Mayor of Labor Relations, was established through one of Mayor Johnson's first executive orders with the primary responsibilities to lead initiatives that promote a strong labor landscape throughout Chicago, spearhead efforts to promote economic justice, improve workplace equity and employment opportunities, and enforce robust labor standards. The First Deputy Mayor of Labor Relations reports to the Deputy Mayor of Labor Relations. The First Deputy will collaborate with the Deputy Mayor, teams across the Mayor's Office, and City Departments to effectuate Mayor Johnson's agenda for Chicago. THIS POSITION IS SHAKMAN EXEMPT Qualifications Qualifications Education & Experience * Bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of experience and education. * Advanced degree in Labor Relations, Law, Public Administration, or related field preferred. * Five or more years of experience in worker advocacy, public policy, or government. * Expertise in labor/employment policy or labor relations is a plus. * Demonstrated experience in developing policy and executing strategy that balances government regulations and stakeholder interests. * Experience working in policy in government a plus. * Experience work with public officials, and the labor, non-profit, and advocacy communities. * Ability to work independently and in teams and to inspire others to work toward achieving common goals. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, exceptional public speaking skills. * Expertise in working with partners to build capacity and expertise in policy and advocacy. The Constitutional and Commercial Litigation Division represents the City and City officials in a broad range of constitutional and commercial matters in both federal and state courts, specializing in cases raising complex, novel, or high-profile legal issues. Attorneys in the Division litigate constitutional challenges to the City's ordinances and policies, such as First Amendment speech and religion challenges to the regulations governing Millennium Park, Second Amendment claims against City gun control measures, Commerce Clause challenges to City business regulations, and due process and equal protection claims against City laws governing the sharing economy. The Division also defends City policies and officials against lawsuits or proceedings brought under federal or state statutes, including cases asserting preemption under federal or state law. These include actions initiated by the federal executive branch or Congress. Schedule, coordinate and supervise moves and other move-related tasks, including pest inspection and unit turnover as needed. Work closely with construction, property management, development, and moving contractors to ensure residents vacate their units per the relocation schedule, surrender keys to the property management, and units are properly secured. Implement procedures for minimizing resident property damage, including inventorying furniture and taking photos or video, and serve as the initial point of contact regarding resident claims of damage or loss. In the event of property damage or missing belongings, serve as a liaison between the resident and moving company to facilitate timely resolution of the claim. Interface with residents' families, friends, or social services providers to ensure seamless delivery of services and address relocation challenges.
