Conducts criminal investigations of CTA related criminal activity. Interacts with outside law enforcement agencies when required. Performs analysis of crime stats regarding the Authority. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS• Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice or a related field and five (5) years investigative experience, or an Associate Degree with ten (10) years investigative experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to this position. • Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license. • Extensive previous experience (10+ years) in law enforcement & performing investigations in the Chicago Metropolitan Area strongly preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS• Requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time and constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery. • Demands include extensive moving, sometimes on rocks and on narrow catwalks, and ascending/descending structures (such as onto trains and back down and up and down ladders of various sizes). • Must wear applicable restrictive personal protective equipment. • Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES• Advanced knowledge of the Authority's operations, rules and regulations coupled with investigative background knowledge to investigate wrongdoing and criminal actions. • Detailed knowledge of Chicago Police Department (CPD) databases. • Detailed knowledge of COMPSTAT principles and processes. • General knowledge of current security camera systems, technology, and user interface. • Good oral and written communications skills and organizational skills. • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with external groups and/or organizations. • Good customer service skills. • Good computer skills. • Ability to work independently. • Ability to work with sensitive information while maintaining strict confidentiality. • Working knowledge of accident investigation best practices. • Ability to work collaboratively with others and other departments. Stands at track level next to portable track trip in full view of approaching trains. Sounds air horn to warn workers when a train approaches within 600 feet of the Slow Zone sign. Holds red flag across the track or a red signal lantern if it is dark or in the subway to signal train operator. Visually checks the track to verify track is cleared after foreman of work crew signals that workers and equipment have been removed. When work area is cleared, removes track trip staff and shows it to the operator. Removes red flag or red lantern from operator's view and signals to proceed. Takes emergency action if a train does not appear to be stopping. Uses air horn or a whistle to warn crew and leaves portable trip in the tripping position. Notifies Control Center regarding portable track trip malfunctions, violations of speed restrictions, and any failure to obey signals. Maintains awareness of location on track at all times in case it becomes necessary to notify the Control Center to turn the power off. Returns Slow Zone area to normal conditions if and when Slow Zone is terminated. Returns all equipment as directed. Works as required by capital and maintenance projects. Performs other duties related to capital and maintenance projects as required, including but not limited to completing documents such as time slips. Operates electronic wayside warning devices as required. Removes snow and ice from track, switches, walkways, and other locations as required. Responsible for performing Information Specialist work.
