Chief architect job description

Looking for a Chief Architect to help determine, motivate, and lead the technical direction of the company. The Chief Architect will oversee technology and recommend solutions that work and scale. Has adopted a microservice infrastructure hosted via scalable PaaS technologies utilizing a continuous delivery framework built on top of docker and mesos. You will own the continued execution and future evolution of this strategy. The most important qualification for the Chief Architect is full-stack, hands-on experience building, deploying, and maintaining technical solutions in an entrepreneurial environment. We code predominantly in Java, Javascript and Scala. Works with a diverse ecosystem of technologies such as Play, Spring Boot, Angular, Tomcat, Thrift, REST, Zookeeper, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Kafka, Storm and Hadoop.
Responsibilities

• Setting and motivating overall corporate technical direction.
• Analyzing and evaluating existing architecture and design.
• Reviewing project designs to determine their technical viability and their relevance to the business goals.
• Remaining up-to-date on current web and infrastructure technologies and anticipating future trends.
• Recommending and deciding technical solutions and guiding engineering teams toward a common methodology.
• Prototyping platform technologies and tools with a dedicated dev team.
• Identify opportunities for both incremental and transformational improvements to engineering productivity (software deployment, designing, writing and testing production code, creating unit and automated regression tests, etc.) and advocating and implementing solutions.
• Own the solution you recommend end to end (i.e. make sure it works and track it as it scales).
• Provide technical leadership in engineering productivity and development practices across the department.
• Successfully and independently lead large, cross team tech projects and initiatives.
• Ensure architecture is built and managed in a scalable manner.
• Work collaboratively with peers and customers (developers, team leads, QA, Systems, UX, and Product).
• Keep us moving quickly in the short and long term, by helping set architectural direction, contributing software design expertise, spreading good engineering practices, and leading projects most critical to the business.

In this role, you will be a senior technologist focused on a specific U.S. Public Sector vertical market. You will be required to have a comprehensive understanding of the agencies in the vertical, including their core missions, technical strategies, and the common technical challenges that must be overcome for successful mission delivery. It will be expected that you have relationships with leaders in the vertical, both in terms of customers and the most influential partners.

What you will do

• Serve as the chief strategist for your area of coverage and a trusted advisor and thought leader to customer technical teams and their business contacts
• Influence how Account teams across your area of coverage position the Red Hat portfolio to solve customer problems and use cases
• Identify common architectural patterns, mitigate architectural conflicts, and advance reusable architectural components across the region, country, or vertical
• Identify sales conversation patterns across the area of coverage that influence customer priorities and thus, the Technical Account Plan, as part of the overall Account Plan
• Represent Red Hat through public written and verbal thought leadership
• Share relevant business and technology trends that influence customer priorities

What you will bring

• 15+ years of enterprise computing experience, including an understanding of common enterprise computing challenges and Red Hat's ability to provide solutions in these areas
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to meet with and present to C-level executives
• Ability to understand and effectively communicate the value of Red Hat's solutions portfolio across technology and solutions spaces, including platform, middleware, cloud and virtualization, and services
• Solid knowledge and experience with technology as it applies to vertical customers and partners
• Experience with and understanding of the Kubernetes ecosystem
• Experience with and understanding of key concepts and players in the realms of cloud computing, edge computing, AI/ML, application architectures, DevSecOps, agile development, and cloud-native development

Qualifications/Requirements

* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

* 15+ years of technical experience along with established leadership credentials across disciplines and functions within a product OR Master's degree with 10 years of experience.

* 5+ years full-time experience in enterprise software architecture - emphasis on implementation of scalable cloud/cloud native technical solutions in products.

Desired Characteristics

* Experience with digital solution concepts such as cybersecurity, SW virtualization, SW containerization, connectivity protocols, microservice architecture, application design, data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI).

* Understanding of enterprise architecture patterns, especially on meeting performance, scalability, and reliability CTQs.

* Experience with Healthcare domain.
