The Executive Director is responsible for shaping the overall culture, direction, coordination, and evaluation of the team and facility. This executive will also be responsible for maximizing the number of events and revenue opportunities at the venue and will work in unison with City of Fresno and community stakeholders to maximize the amount of regional and national events taking place in those managed venues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Build and maintain effective working relationships with the contract administrator(s), City of Fresno departments, Visit Fresno County CVB, facility clients, community stakeholders, live event industry decision makers, labor unions, and community and civic organizations.
2. Provide cohesive and positive leadership and direction to all departments and VenuWorks staff.
3. Aggressively promote the use of the facility with agents, promoters and community to maximize the number of annual events in each venue. Negotiate lease agreements with meeting planners, third-party organizations, event organizers, and promoters.
4. Serve as fiscal oversight officer for all managed business units including budget development, overview of financial and accounting systems, financial projections and controls, and personnel management.
5. Provide oversite and administration for each of the operating units, ensuring safe operation, properly maintained and clean properties including financial management, sales & marketing, operations, programming, and community relations.
6. Provide oversite and compliance with the joint operating agreement with ATG Entertainment, as well as the third-party concessions and catering vendor.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
7. Seek out community involvement opportunities including speaking engagements, media interviews and other public appearances. Represent VenuWorks in a positive manner to the community, convention and hospitality industries, colleges and universities, and other agencies.
8. Monitor VenuWorks' compliance with all provisions of the management contract(s).
9. Negotiate contractual agreements as determined necessary and in the best interests of the venue.
10. Provide final approval of all contracts and agreements with licensees, vendors, suppliers for necessary activities and services at the facility.
11. Complete annual reporting and communicate successes to stakeholders and clients.
12. Research, develop, and maintain relationships with artist agents, artist management as well as local, regional and national promoters. Initiate and oversee programming for all managed venues, securing contracts for concerts, sporting tournaments, conventions and events, receptions and exhibitions.
13. Provide guidance and direction on marketing and ticket operations to maximize sales for every event.
14. Provide guidance and direction for maximizing revenues related to sponsorships, grants, donations, naming rights and vendor trade.
15. Provide oversite and management of third-party food and beverage operations and staff including full-service catering and concessions.
16. Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate administrative and supervisory staff.
17. Plan, organize, coordinate and direct all activities and staff engaged in maintaining and operating the venues.
18. Complete continuous performance appraisals for staff and make annual salary/bonus recommendations.
19. Conduct leadership and staff meetings on a consistent basis.
20. Direct the development and administer the execution of facility operating budgets.
21. Oversee and advise on any necessary revisions/modification to the staffing plans, including number and types of employees, essential functions, salaries, and benefits.
22. Responsible for creating an exceptional working environment for all VenuWorks staff.
23. Greet the general public and clients in a courteous manner, directing guests to the appropriate person or area.
24. Maintain daily oversite of all operations and event activity at the FCEC, assuring successful coordination and attainment of annual goals.
25. Ensure efficient and effective operation, including capital maintenance and improvement projects.
26. Ensure the operations of the venues are conducted in accordance with applicable local, state and federal regulations.
27. Oversee staff compliance with all OSHA, NFPA and other risk mitigation initiatives and comply with VenuWorks insurance reporting policies.
28. Maintain emergency preparedness within venues, along with compliance with licensing procedures, codes, and permits.
29. Oversee specific plans and programs prescribed by VenuWorks' corporate direction, to include Human Resources, Sales and Marketing, quality assurance, operational efficiency, safety/emergency procedures, and crowd control.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct reports include multiple director and manager level full-time personnel.

Job Summary

About the Position

Principal Gift Fundraising & Strategy

Impact Areas
Strategic Vision and Organizational Leadership
Provide overall vision, leadership, and strategic direction to advance MMC's mission and ensure organizational effectiveness, sustainability, and growth.
Collaborate with the Board and executive leadership team to develop, implement, and monitor strategic and operational plans that position MMC as a proactive leader in domestic violence prevention and intervention.
Champion innovation and continuous improvement while maintaining fidelity to MMC's trauma-informed values and service model.
Partner with the Board to ensure strong governance, effective communication, and transparency in all major decisions and organizational updates.
Serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board of Directors and as liaison to committees as assigned.
Operational Excellence and Accountability
Lead, manage, and hold the executive leadership team accountable for achieving goals, upholding MMC's core values, and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
Ensure efficient and compliant operations, policies, and systems across all programs and administrative functions.
Establish clear organizational structures, roles, and performance standards that support collaboration and effectiveness.
Ensure legal, regulatory, and contractual compliance across all operations, grants, and partnerships.

People and Culture
Lead with empathy and authenticity, modeling inclusive and trauma-informed management practices that support staff well-being, resilience, and collaboration.
Oversee recruitment, professional development, and retention strategies that empower staff and promote diversity, equity, and belonging.
Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and mutual respect throughout the organization.
Ensure executive team and department leaders are well-supported, cross-trained, and held to clear standards of excellence and ethics.

Fundraising and Community Engagement
Serve as MMC's lead ambassador and chief fundraiser, cultivating strong relationships with donors, funders, and community partners to expand visibility and philanthropic support.
Partner with the Board and staff to foster a culture of philanthropy that inspires generosity and connects donor investment directly to MMC's mission and impact.
Strengthen and diversify revenue streams through individual giving, corporate partnerships, foundation support, and community-based fundraising initiatives.
Align fundraising and engagement strategies with MMC's values of compassion, integrity, and equity to ensure authenticity and mission alignment.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in an applicable field (nonprofit management, business administration, social work, public policy, or related). Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive senior leadership experience, including at least five (5) years in an executive or CEO role within a nonprofit, human services, or community-based organization.
Demonstrated experience overseeing large teams (50+), multi-million-dollar budgets ($10M+), and complex programs.
Proven success in strategic planning, operational leadership, and financial management.
Demonstrated success in fundraising and partnership development (individual donors, corporate, and government funders).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep commitment to MMC's mission and trauma-informed philosophy, with sensitivity to the dynamics of domestic violence.
Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences.
Skilled in leading large, multidisciplinary teams and fostering collaboration across departments and external partners.
Strong fiscal and operational management skills, with experience overseeing compliance, risk management, and funding diversification.
