We are, high-end, Residential and Commercial Landscape Company, celebrating our 50th year in business. We are located in Southern Vermont. We have two facilities, approximately 15 miles apart. One facility is located at the base of a popular New England ski area; we consider this our winter resort community, and our second facility services a high-end summer resort community. We specialize in high-end Landscape Design/Build, Bid/Build, Lawn and Garden Maintenance, Property Management and Snow Removal. We are seeking a seasoned Integrator/General Manager with strong experience running a trade or field-service business (e.g., landscaping, construction, etc.). This is a succession-oriented leadership role. The GM will spend the first 612 months learning the businessour markets, people, systems, and culturebefore gradually assuming full responsibility for the day-to-day operations. Key Responsibilities Leadership & People Management Partner with the Owners to ensure the companys vision, values, and standards are lived out daily. Lead, coach, and develop our team. Build and maintain a high-performance culture with clear expectations, accountability, and regular feedback. Drive recruiting, onboarding, training, and retention initiatives to build a strong bench of field leaders and key roles. Operational Excellence (Maintenance, Enhancements, Design-Build, Snow) Own the planning and execution of all landscape maintenance, enhancement, and design-build work to meet quality, safety, and profitability targets. Oversee the snow and ice management operations, including route planning, readiness, storm response, and post-storm review for continuous improvement. Ensure efficient scheduling, routing, and resource allocation (labor, equipment, materials) across seasons. Implement and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reduce waste, rework, and firefighting. Client Experience & Market Presence Support and guide account managers in building strong client relationships, ensuring high levels of responsiveness and professionalism. Review contract performance, renewals, and pricing strategies to protect and grow key accounts. Collaborate with Managers to identify upsell and enhancement opportunities within existing client portfolios. Uphold the companys reputation for quality, reliability, and integrity in the Vermont market. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management Champion a safety-first culture across all operations, including snow and ice management. Ensure compliance with local/state regulations, environmental standards, and company policies. Systems, Processes & Continuous Improvement Learn and optimize existing landscape software platform - Aspire (e.g., CRM, estimating, scheduling, job costing). Use KPIs and dashboards to manage, make decisions, and drive accountability. Identify process gaps and lead continuous improvement projects to streamline operations and support growth. Financial Management & P&L Responsibility Monitor job costing, labor efficiency, materials usage, and equipment utilization; take corrective action to protect margins. Partner with the Owners and accounting team to understand financial performance and improve profitability over time. First 612 Months: Learning & Transition Phase Collaborate closely with the Owners to understand the company history, strategy, and culture. Build trust with the leadership team and staff and form an accurate picture of strengths, gaps, and priorities. Ride along with field teams, attend client meetings, and observe snow events and seasonal transitions. Learn existing, key accounts, and job mix (maintenance vs. enhancements vs. design-build vs. snow). Gradually assume responsibility for operations, then budgets, as agreed with the Owners. Qualifications Required: 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in a trade/field-service business (landscaping, construction, or similar). 3+ years in a general management, operations director, or branch/region leadership role with P&L or significant budget responsibility. Proven history of leading teams of 25+ employees across field and office roles. Strong financial acumen: comfortable with budgets, job costing, margins, and cash-related decisions. Demonstrated success improving operational efficiency, safety, and profitability. Experience working in seasonal or weather-dependent businesses; familiarity with winter operations or snow/ice management is a strong plus. Excellent communication, leadership, and change-management skills. Preferred: Experience in the landscape industry (Maintenance, enhancements, Design/Build, and snow). Experience with growth-stage companies scaling from $5M$15M+ in revenue. Familiarity with Vermont or similar High-end, second Homeowner, Resort/New England markets and climate. Position Title: Director of Operations Dated: 01/2026 Classification: Exempt, Full-time Job Tier and Salary Range: Director Level $85,000 to $95,000, depending on experience Supervisor: Executive Director Willing Hands Mission is to reduce food waste and expand equitable and reliable access to fresh food. Willing Hands grows, gleans, and recovers nourishing fresh food and distributes it for free to our neighbors in need through a network of 85 human service organizations in the greater Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire. Job Summary: The Director of Operations ensures that Willing Hands core operational functions, including but not limited to warehouse operations, facilities, fleet, and food recovery logistics, run safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the organizations mission. In partnership with the Executive Director, this position supports long-term operational planning, informs and manages the organization-wide expense budget, and participates in financial reporting. The role will also ensure compliance with safety and food-handling standards and help maintain the organizations infrastructure. As a senior leadership position, the Director of Operations supports organization-wide systems development, staff supervision, and serves as a key internal leader across multiple departments. This position serves on the Willing Hands Management Team. Key Accountabilities (reason for being) (percentages as applicable): Warehouse and Delivery Operations - Oversight of all warehouse and delivery operations, including supervising the Operations Manager and supporting the operations team in SOP development, leading food recovery logistics, food sourcing, food pickup, and delivery. (40%) Capital Asset Management and Planning - Responsible for facilities and fleet management, including safety, maintenance, and capital planning. (10%) Organizational leadership - Contribute to organization-wide strategic planning and support the development team by providing operational insight and impact information. (10%) Financial Management - With the Executive Director, oversees all organizational budgeting and expense management. With the management team, leads short and -term financial planning. (40%) Other related assignments as necessary. Supervisory Responsibilities: Operations Manager, Part-time Bookkeeper Duties/Responsibilities: Operations, Warehouse, and Delivery Ensure warehouse workflows support safe, efficient sorting, packing, and storage of fresh food. Work with the Operations Manager and Delivery Lead to maintain effective delivery routes and schedules. Uphold food safety procedures and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Support the development of clear, written SOPs across operational areas. Supports stewardship of existing and new food recovery partners. Facilities, Fleet, and Infrastructure Manage maintenance and inspection schedules for all vehicles, refrigeration, and buildings. Create or maintain checklists and tracking systems for routine facilities upkeep. Support long-term planning for equipment and vehicle replacement. Oversees IT systems and IT assets. Duties Cont. Organizational Leadership & Staff Support Provide consistent supervision, coaching, and annual evaluations for direct reports. Help develop organization-wide systems that improve clarity, communication, and safety. Support implementation of the organizations strategic plan in collaboration with the Executive Director. Foster a positive, mission-focused, safety-oriented workplace culture. Fiscal Responsibilities Oversee the development and manage the organizations annual operating and capital budgets. Work with team leads to monitor departmental expenses, update projections, and report monthly. Provide operational cost information needed for grant reporting and in-kind and restricted-fund tracking. Track spending on fleet, facilities, and equipment to support accurate forecasting. Organizational support Serve on committees as assigned, including Strategic Planning. Serve on the Management Team. Other related assignments as necessary. Skills/Abilities: Strong experience with financial management and operational leadership in a nonprofit or small-business setting. Proven ability to supervise and support diverse teams across multiple functional areas. Clear communicator with strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to translate complex operational needs into simple systems and checklists. Comfortable balancing office-based work with hands-on operational oversight. Commitment to safety, equity, and mission-driven decision making. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Required and/or preferred Education and Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in an operations leadership role, with non-profit experience preferred. Strong operational leadership experience, preferred in nonprofit, agricultural, food systems, logistics, or small-business environments. Experience with warehouse, logistics, farming, and food systems is helpful but not required. Experience supervising staff and managing multi-department systems. Ability to translate complex operational needs into simple systems and checklists. Comfortable blending office-based planning with hands-on operational oversight. Proficient with computer systems and technology. Clear communicator with strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Budget development, expense management, and financial reporting experience required; nonprofit finance preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Commitment to safety, equity, and mission-driven decision making. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Prolonged periods of computer work. Occasional ability to lift, move, or inspect materials in warehouse, farm, or fleet environments. Ability to move between the office, warehouse, and off-site locations as needed.
