Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health company history timeline

1976

Founded in 1976, the agency continues to change and evolve to meet the needs and challenges of youth for the past 45 years.

1977

The following year (1977), the Stark County Juvenile Center appointed agency staff to conduct comprehensive evaluations and develop service plans for youth referred by the court system.

1978

Early in the decade Larry Stone wrote the Standards for Pediatric Facilities for Children as AACP integrates with JCAH. In 1978, AACP was accepted into the Council of Academic Societies of the American Association of Mental Colleges.

1981

In 1981, Mike Johnson was named chief executive officer (CEO) and served the agency for 34 years.

1983

AACP (1983), Child Psychiatry: A Plan for the Coming Decades.

1986

Helen Beiser led the AACP to be elected to a seat in the AMA House of Delegates in 1986.

In 1986, the academy voted to expand its name to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and within a few years, this expansion was approved by the ABPN and the Psychiatry RRC.

1987

Another major change was seen in the directorship of Doctor L. N. Sharma in 1987 when Doctor Rakesh Khanna was appointed as an assistant professor and given charge of child psychiatry unit in 1987.

1990

The Berlin Wall fell in 1990 and the Hubble Space Telescope was launched.

1990 found the Furman Initiative on Public Education and Psychiatry began under the leadership of Owen Lewis and Harold Koplewitz.

1991

Deepshikha is a nonprofit, nongovernment organization founded by Doctor Alka Nizamie, an alumnus of CIP. The liaison of this institute with Deepshikha began during the times of the director Doctor L. N. Sharma in 1991 to promote awareness of childhood epilepsy among people at grass root level.

1993

In 1993, CASC receives a large federal wrap around grant creating a number of new programs.

1994

Schowalter JE (1994), The History of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

1996

The agency formed a partnership with Family Court in 1996 and offered a new program – Sexually Inappropriate Behaviors Remediation (SIBR).

1997

CASC opened its third location in Belden Village in 1997 marking record growth for the agency.

1998

Another change took place in 1998 during the times of Doctor S. Haque Nizamie as director, with the appointment of Doctor Vinod Kumar Sinha as consultant in charge of child psychiatry unit.

1999

The agency entered in to new partnerships and established an endowment fund to close out the century in 1999.

2000

Schowalter JE (2000), Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Comes of Age.

2001

The new millennium opens with the election of George W. Bush and in 2001, September 11th, to be exact are the terrorist attacks on The World Trade Center, The Pentagon and a field in Shanlesville, PA killing nearly 3,000 people.

2002

In 2002 The Academy begins The Campaign for Americas Kids and U.S News World Report, awards AACAP web page the best one in Child Mental Health.

2006

The annual Let Your Light Shine community awareness event and fundraiser for C&A was started in 2006 by Nancy Pryce and the board of directors.

2008

Child and Adolescent Service Center changed its name to Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health (C & A) on May 15, 2008 to more accurately reflect the agency and its mission.

In 2008 as there are increases in work groups and Task Forces at AACAP: Juvenile Justice,Research,Work Force Issues.

2010

The 36th Annual Conference of Indian Psychiatric Society, Eastern Zonal Branch (CEZIPS 2010), was held at the CIP on October 8 and 9, 2010.

2011

In the year 2011, various items made by the patients were displayed and sold to generate funds for the club at the National Mid Term CME of Indian Psychiatric Society held at Ranchi.

2012

In 2012 Ginger Anthony retires and Heidi Fordi becomes AACAP's second Executive Director.

The department, which was called the “child guidance clinic” at its inception, has been renamed the Erna Hoch Centre for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2012.

2014

The playroom and the multisensory room saw the light of the day on August 15, 2014, due to the initiative of Doctor Alka Haque Nizamie and Doctor V. K. Sinha along with the residents and students posted over there.

2018

C&A opened their Plain Community office, the agency’s fourth location, in September of 2018 located at GlenOak High School.
