Under the direction of the Early Childhood Education Director, and direct supervision of the Child Development Center Program Manager, Lead Teacher assists in overseeing and directing the planning, organizing, and implementation of education services for children, in addition to classroom duties which include: developing and implementing individual educational plans for children, provide for the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development of Infants, Toddlers and Preschool in a safe environment. Be familiar with and implement the approved early childhood curriculum when planning and organizing the classroom environment. Conduct developmental screenings and assessments for all children in accordance with program guidelines and required timelines. Interact with families on a daily basis. Solicit volunteers for participation in the program. Track individual child goals and develop individualized lesson plans and activities to support child development.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in grantee and delegate component pre-service training.
Implement curriculum in the classroom; develop comprehensive weekly lesson plans.
Perform the functions of this position with a strong understanding of Early Childhood Development and the component plans; and thorough knowledge and application of Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
Supervise classroom staff, including Teacher Assistant, and volunteers.
Guide and facilitate activities of the children, including daily activities, field trips, selecting and arranging equipment and materials in the classroom.
Lead other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the classroom, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children.
Maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child, including weekly observations in each area, examples of the child's work, and a developmental assessment.
Use parent conferences to discuss the child's individual development and progress, assist the parents in developing observational skills.

Maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment. Assure that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
Use the playground as an extension of the classroom; assures that the playground is safe.
Supervise completion of the daily health and environment checklist.
Assist in implementing children's I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) or I.F.S.P. (Individual Family Service Plan) seeking clarification for any aspects that are not well understood.
Assist in recruiting and orienting volunteers, providing them with guidance as needed.
Complete and submit required forms and records in a timely and accurate fashion, e.g., lesson plans, time sheets, meal reports etc.
Coordinate the transition of children to Head Start and/or childcare programs.
Complete and work with Program Manager to attain goals outlined in Professional Development Plan.
Assure that files are complete, accurate, and confidentially maintained.
CAREGIVER ROLE:
Responsible on a daily bases for the infants/toddler's routine: feeding, diaper changing, toilet training, rocking, holding, safety and playing.
Model appropriate best practices in infant, toddler and preschool care.
If placed in the Infant room: Maintain accurate records on each infant in their care: attendance, screening, assessment, development, immunization, and general health including illness and injuries.
Provide children with experiences and opportunities that allow them to develop curiosity, initiative, problem-solving skills, and creativity, as well as a sense of self and a feeling of belonging.
Directly supervise infants, toddler or preschoolers by sight or hearing at all times, even when children are in sleeping areas.
Responsible for the physical safety of the infants, toddler or preschoolers in the classroom and outdoors.
Responsible for following all health and safety standards such a cleaning & disinfecting bottles, teething rings, cribs, changing tables, high chairs, toys, table, counter tops, play surfaces and do laundry as needed.
Willing to attend training, and/or classes for the purpose of professional development.
Follow all of the child development center practices, federal and Washington State regulations licensing requirements.

OTHER DUTIES:

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:

Two (2) or more years' experience working with children (Birth to Five) and families in childcare setting.
Associate's Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university (required).

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift in order to assist a student with personal care. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Lead Teacher and in partnership with the Program Manager, this position assists with the supervision, teaching of, and interaction with students in the classroom, playground, and during field trips or any other activity. Teacher Assistants will assist with the health & safety of the children, prepare materials, set up classroom, clean up after the children on a daily basis, and assist in planning activities when requested by the Lead Teacher.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Classroom Responsibilities:
Assists in supervising up to 20 students with at least one or two other staff in the infant, toddler or preschool classroom.
Assists Lead Teacher in preparing for daily activities, planning and implementing lessons for the following weeks.
Assists in setting up and maintaining order in the large and small motor areas.
Conducts a thorough cleaning of all play and work areas.
Serves as a positive role model to children by displaying appropriate behavior and offers guidance and assistant in resolving conflicts, and instruction in age-appropriate behavior within the guidelines of the program.
Interacts with children in ways that encourages language opportunities such as asking open-ended questions, reading, labeling their artwork, and participating in their dramatic play.
Assists in supervising, teaching, interacting, guiding, and observing children during all aspects of the daily schedule.
Interacts and assists in teaching children during large group, language lessons, Behavioral Health, small group, mealtime, and outside time. Sits on the circle time rug during circle time to assist children with difficulties.
Reports to Lead Teacher ongoing development and concerns by accessing and observing children.
Is aware of children's allergies or health issues and assists in ensuring health plans are followed.
Follows health and safety policy and procedures.
Ensures the first aid kit backpack is properly stocked with supplies and available during field trips, outside play, and emergency drills.
Assists the children with tooth brushing and self-help skills.
Observes and reports individual children's significant behavior, injuries, and incidents using the Incident or Accident Report forms.
Assists Lead Teacher with attendance, health checks, meal counts, planning, screenings, and observations, as requested.
Directly supervise infants/toddlers/preschoolers by sight or hearing at all times, even when children are in sleeping areas.
Follows diapering procedures during diaper change and documents on the Diaper Log.
Supervises children using the bathroom while maintaining classroom staff/child ratio; assists children with self-help skills.
Present in assigned classroom at all times and clearly communicates with the Lead Teacher regarding whereabouts and breaks if leaving the classroom for any reason.
Meal Time Responsibilities:
Encourages good personal hygiene by practicing proper hand washing before and after meals.
Sits with children during meals and role model and actively engages them in age-appropriate conversation.
Sets tables with students; teaches children how to set tables for snacks and mealtimes.
Teaches children how to serve themselves and how to pour milk and water or other beverages served.
Helps children clean up their plates after meal and snack time (scraping plates, emptying cups, stacking dishes, and pushing in chairs).
Encourages children to try new foods and uses mealtime as an opportunity to teach children about nutrition.
Cleans tables before and after meals using a three-step procedure with soap, water, and bleach solution. Follows Kitchen staff instructions for mealtime cleanup of food and used dishes.
Checks for safety hazards. Aware at all times of food or spills on the floor and cleans up immediately.
Is aware of specific food allergies and health issues. Children with food allergies will have a doctor's order and it will be posted in the kitchen and the classroom. Check meals served to children with food allergies to ensure the cook has prepared appropriate food.
Outdoor Learning Environment Responsibilities:
Checks for safety hazards, such as garbage, animals, open gates, damage to fence, damage to play equipment, animal waste, and unsafe vegetation and holes in play area.
Ensures children riding bikes are wearing a helmet that is properly fitted to them anytime they are on a bike.
Informs Lead Teacher or Program Management when playground and/or playground equipment needs repair to request a Maintenance Work Order.
Ensures tricycles are put away every day. Checks for damage and reports to Lead Teacher.
Ensures Grab and Go backpack is taken on the playground and is aware of its location.
Assists in supervising the children's activities during outdoor time, constantly monitoring and interacting with students.
Other Responsibilities:
Willing to attend training, workshops, conferences, and or classes. Some training may occur after hours and may require travel for more than one day, and may last longer than a normal workday.
Meets with Teaching Team as needed to discuss strategies on supporting children's needs. Attends program staff meetings as assigned.
Must sign Confidentiality Policy and maintains strict confidentiality of child, parent, and staff information at all times.
Works evenings up to once a month as needed for program activities.
Follows Nooksack Tribe and Early Childhood policy and procedures, including cell phone use, attendance and punctuality, visitors, food and beverages in classrooms, chain of command, personal appearance and dress attire, confidentiality, and social media.
Maintains excellent attendance and punctuality. Calls in at least 30 minutes before shift start time if you will be late or absent.
Is familiar with licensing and/or performance standards for the Early Childhood program.
Is respectful when communicating and interacting with coworkers, supervisors, and families.
OTHER DUTIES:
The Tribe is committed to community service and the well-being of its members. Therefore, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are required for the incumbent to have, in order to be considered for the position.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING FOR THE POSITION:
High School Diploma/GED
Must be 18 years or older
AND
Must be able and willing to enroll in a Child Development Associates credential program upon hire and complete the program within two (2) years of hire.
OR
Must be able and willing to enroll in an Early Childhood Associates Degree program upon hire and complete the degree within two years from date of hire.
REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must pass alcohol/drug test upon job offer and throughout employment.
This position requires regular contact with or control over children and is therefore subject to an extensive Criminal Background Check, including fingerprinting, at time of hire and periodically thereafter.
Complete any required medical tests and vaccinations as required by regulations that govern the program such as TB Test, and COVID-19 Vaccination.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while
performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise
control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must
be able to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift in order to assist a student with
personal care/safety. In addition, this position emphasizes work with students who have been recommended by
a team to be serviced by a Behavior Intervention Program (BIP). These programs focus heavily on appropriate
behavioral responses to stress, positive socializations, and appropriate interactions with others students. This
includes behavioral intervention plans, behavior goals, behavioral modeling, exposure to verbal/physical
escalations, and the potential for serious verbal/physical incidents. The employee is required to deal with
distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the
work environment varies but can be loud during verbal escalations by students.
Evaluation:
The position is a district-wide position dependent on the needs of each Behavioral Intervention Program and shall
be evaluated periodically by the Building Principal/Executive Director of Special Education and/or assigns
pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an
evaluation of the employee's performance of the above essential job functions.
Compensation
Between $25.34-$27.16 depending on role placed/ Mon-Friday Schedule/6.5 Total Workday

Assists students in one-to-one and small group settings to provide additional learning support for instructional areas including vocabulary, writing, reading, library, math, social studies, natural and computer science, and special needs
