Position Description
SoonerStart is Oklahoma's early intervention program designed to meet the needs of families with infants and toddlers (ages birth to 3 years old) with developmental delays and/or disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The program builds upon and provides supports and resources to assist family members to enhance infants or toddler's learning and development through everyday learning opportunities.
The Special Educator in the SoonerStart program is responsible for providing individual and family services to enhance the learning, development, and social-emotional skills of children with developmental delays as well as promote literacy and understanding of early cognitive concepts while monitoring progress toward goals. This includes assessing and/or screening health and development in young children; coaching and modeling skills for families to implement to enhance their child's opportunities in health, cognitive, personal-social, language, and motor development; serving as a member of an interdisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child health and development services.
This position is responsible for providing health, developmental and educational services in the areas of child health. Services are provided in the child's natural environment settings in which children typically spend time, for example, home or childcare. Services include screenings, evaluations, intervention, and parent education.
Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
The functions within this job family will vary by level; responsibility but may include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Provides early intervention services in the child and family's natural environment (home, childcare, park etc.)
* Participates in family interview.
* Conducts intakes, including client interviews, and conducts assessments to make appropriate recommendations for services.
* Participating as a member of an interdisciplinary team in completing assessments and developing Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
* Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child health and development services.
* Determines eligibility and evaluates client needs.
* Administers onsite assessments and evaluations to coordinate direct special education early intervention services to improve learning skills.
* Provides learning interventions in the natural environment.
* Determines appropriate services and interventions for the child/family.
* Assists in initiating and implementing the steps necessary for smooth transition services from the early intervention program.
* Maintains confidential records of services including progress notes and evaluation reports in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Requirements at this level consist of a Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field from an accredited college or university and possession of a valid teaching certificate issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, certified in Special Education preferred but not mandatory, plus two year of post-baccalaureate teaching experience. Plus, the ability to assess/evaluate children's cognitive, social, emotional, communication, motor, and adaptive abilities to develop educational outcomes to enhance school readiness.
Level III:

The ChildCareTeacher serves as a staff member at will of Domestic Violence Intervention Services (DVIS). The ChildCareTeacher will provide quality childcare, recreational care, and/or educational activities for children birth - eighteen years of age; to assist with child advocacy projects as time permits when no children are in childcare. Additionally, the ChildCareTeacher will provide coverage at additional childcare sites as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for creating, planning, and implementing recreational and/or educational childcare lesson plans for the Family Safety Center that focus on the social, emotional, developmental, and physical well-being of children and caregivers.
Keep childcare center clean and orderly, sanitizing at the opening, after every child, and at closing, and picking up trash when necessary.
Prepare and set up the childcare center at the start of every day.
Priority 4: Administrative
Adhere to Licensing Regulations when providing coverage at additional sites.
Other Duties/Responsibilities: Other assistance to support the overall goals of the department and organization. DVIS retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Budgetary/Fiscal Responsibilities: None. Acts as a good steward of DVIS's resources.

THIS POSITION
