Specific to the Comprehensive Like Skills Classroom as follows: • Prefer experience developing support systems using assistive technology • Prefer experience in coordinating related services and accessing community supports • Experience with teaching a self-contained special education classroom. • Prefer training in CPI or like de-escalation techniques. • Experience in the development of behavioral plans. • Able to plan curriculum, create lessons, and model best practice teaching methods throughout the day • Must be able to manage paraprofessional support • Must be able to deliver curriculum in all aspects of the basic core curriculum • Must be able to lift at least 75 pounds • Must be willing to assist with toileting • Prefer experience administering Nevada Alternative Assessment 2. Plans a program of study, that as much as possible, meets the individual needs and abilities of students. 3. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation as requested by the immediate supervisor. 4. Identifies those students with learning problems on a regular basis seeking the assistance of District specialists as required. 5. Assists the administration in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board of Trustees' policy, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. 6. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records and inventories as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation. 7. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. 8. Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. 9. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. 10. Attends and participates in faculty meetings. 11. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods. 12. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. 13. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others. 14. Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities if requested. 15. Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning. 16. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may assign in a supplemental job description involving the individual school program.

    Substitute/Substitute Paraprofessional SUBSTITUTE PARAPROFESSIONAL - $17.71 hourly rate. Terms of Employment: Substitute - Temporary, as needed FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT POSITION SUMMARY: Under the immediate supervision of a licensed professional, works closely with one or more student(s) with disabilities on a regular basis in an effort to provide the student(s) with the educational, physical, emotional and/or behavioral support they need to successfully implement the requirements of their Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). This person reports directly to the school site administrator. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented. Assists the student(s) to whom they are assigned in such physical tasks as putting on and taking off outerwear, moving from room to room, using the restroom, provide toileting and/or personal hygiene care (i.e. changing diapers), carrying lunch trays, eating, transportation, etc. Assists the student(s) in curriculum tasks as assigned by a certified teacher, carrying out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments, in and out of the traditional classroom, as designated in the instructional plan based on the IEP and under the direct supervision of the certified teacher. Under the direct supervision of a certified teacher, works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher. Accompanies the student(s) to other locations within the school, if the child's disability warrants this type of support. Establishes as fully as possible a supportive relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement. Serves as a resource person, if and when requested, to the student's eligibility and IEP teams when conferring about the student whom the paraprofessional is assigned. Assisting individual students in performing activities initiated by the special education or classroom teacher. Assisting the special education teacher in data collection procedures, observing, recording and charting behavior. Monitoring and reporting student(s) progress to the certified personnel. Assist the student in interacting with the available classroom technology (SmartBoard, etc.). Conforms to safety standards as prescribed. Ability to work with students and adults in a variety of settings on and off school campus areas. Ability to commute outside of attendance area as required by certified personnel in order to transport students to vocational programs. Ability to make connections within the community for possible employment opportunities for students with disabilities under the direction of the certified teacher. Ability to communicate with various agencies to assist in setting up student appointments. Ability to supervise students/adults doing piecework activities and complete the necessary paperwork for this type of vocational skill. Ability to take direction from and provide assistance to the Special Education teacher in charge of the transition program. Ability to work unsupervised in an office offsite from the school for a portion of the day. Performs and participates in other related duties as assigned by the building administrator or designee. POSITION EXPECTATIONS: Knowledge of CPR/AED and Universal Precautions. Ability to work effectively with special needs students. Ability to interpret and apply oral and written instructions. Licenses and Certifications: Substitute paraprofessionals need a high school diploma or GED. Must have the ability to complete: Specialized training as needed to meet individual student needs as outlined in IEP. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical and mental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
