MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED and shall hold, or be working toward, an Associate's degree in birth-through-kindergarten, child development, early childhood education, or an early childhood education related field or a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Instructional assistants working toward the minimum of an Associate Degree or CDA shall make progress by completing a minimum of six documented semester hours per year; OR
Meet the employment requirements outlined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Pub.L. 114-95, AND have one of the following:
Six documented semester hours of coursework in early childhood education, OR
Two years of work experience in an early childhood setting.
Experience working with or assisting individuals with special needs (an individual with one or more difficulties such as, a physical, emotional, behavioral, or learning disability or impairment that causes an individual to require additional or specialized services or accommodations).
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Hold and maintain a Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification (specific program to be determined by WCPSS Special Education Services) and maintain that certification through the proper renewal process, adhering to all timelines; CPI training will be provided through Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), if needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
First Aid and CPR certifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides support and assistance to teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students, including familiarity with student's IEP; ensures an encouraging, caring, safe, and healthful environment for all students.
Assists teachers with strategies related to the implementation of students' behavioral intervention plans.
Aids teachers with planning and organizing, evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing necessary materials; ensures materials for students are readily available according to the needs of the lesson plan.
Demonstrates professional and technical skills necessary to function effectively in the classroom and to support student achievement and the school program.
Maintains a positive disposition, exercises good judgement, and remains calm when dealing with students at all times.
Provides in-class support while promoting progress towards independence and self-determination for all students.
Assists teachers with implementation of low and high tech assistive technology and augmentative communication devices in the classroom to meet both class-wide and individual student needs.
Compiles, maintains, and files reports, records, and other required documents, maintaining confidentiality.
Participates in the district staff development program and continued professional growth in the area of assignment.
Coordinates, assists, and facilitates student transitions between classes; assists students by providing for special health care needs, which could include:
Personal hygiene, restroom functions, diapering, etc.;
Mobility assistance including lifting, positioning or transferring student;
Activities related to seizure control;
Feeding needs;
Adaptive equipment needs such as wheelchairs, crutches, prosthetic devices, orthotic devices, hearing aids, braille, assistive listening devices (ADL), and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices;
Behavioral assistance and CPI skills.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to use a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. Must be able to communicate effectively. At times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical requirements are consistent with those for medium work.
School can contact the school's Physical Therapist for assistance, if needed, for proper lifting techniques.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work in a classroom and office environment, and come into direct contact with school system staff, students, parents, and the community.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Teacher assistants must hold one of the following qualifications:
A 2 year degree
A minimum of 48 semester hours of college coursework.
WorkKeys assessments in reading, writing, and math with a bronze passing score (level 3).
Teacher assistants with an effective date of hire 9/1/18 and beyond must hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsement or be willing and eligible to obtain a CDL driver's license with P/S endorsements at the next training opportunity. If a candidate does not pursue a CDL drivers license with P/S endorsements at the next training opportunity or is ineligible to obtain a CDL drivers license with P/S endorsements for any reason, this could result in recommendation for dismissal.

Your Role as an Assistant Teacher
As an Assistant Teacher, youll work closely with the Lead Teacher to deliver a nurturing, safe, and educational classroom environment for children. Youll help implement play-based learning activities, manage classroom routines, and provide individualized attention that supports each childs social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Key Responsibilities
Support daily routines including circle time, story time, snack, outdoor play, and rest time
Assist with lesson planning and curriculum implementation based on childrens developmental needs and interests
Supervise children during classroom transitions, group play, and hands-on activities
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment aligned with state licensing regulations
Encourage independence, self-help skills, and social interaction through positive guidance strategies
Observe and document childrens behavior and milestones for communication with families and the teaching team
Provide age-appropriate support for children
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to create a supportive, inclusive early childhood learning environment
Qualifications
Previous experience in child care, preschool, daycare, or toddler education (preferred)
Understanding of child development principles and developmentally appropriate practices (DAP)
Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic about working with young children
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset
Ability to multitask, follow classroom structure, and adapt to childrens needs
High school diploma or GED required
CDA or enrollment in Early Childhood Education courses (preferred but not required)

Child care teacher job in Pittsboro, NC
The assistant teacher is responsible for assisting the classroom with the general supervision
and management of a class of children. He or she must be knowledgeable in developmentally
appropriate practices; and have flexible hours that cover the needs of the center. The co-teacher/
assistant is responsible for assisting teachers in supervising all children in their room ensuring
activities and curriculum are adhered to as required by the director.
Responsibilities:
• Helps and supervises children during all activities
• Counsels children when social, academic, or adjustment problems arise
• Ensures that the appearance, cleanliness, and safe environment of the classroom are
appropriately maintained
• Helps children with mealtimes and clean-up
• Helps with all academy and classroom paperwork, such as daily tracking notes, student
accident reports, and attendance reports
• Attends and participates in staff meetings, academy events, and parent meetings as
requested
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Work together with other educators, discussing your progress and sharing ideas
Requirements:
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Must meet all requirements stipulated by the state for this position
• Must be able to adapt to teaching in any of the classrooms
• Pleasant/friendly demeanor and an outgoing personality
• Highly professional and dependable
• Must be able to interact appropriately with students of all ages and skill levels, as well as
