Child care counselors should be able to react quickly, drive a motor vehicle, participate in activities, sports and recreation. Child care counselors should be able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, reach, push and pull, and climb stairs. This position is based on a 48 hour work week. Child care counselors are expected to work extended shifts which may be up to 24 hours or occasionally may be longer. Position requires extended periods of awake time. Child care counselors need to have good judgment skills, be able to work in a crisis situation, and be capable of independent thinking. Frequently the restraining, lifting or carrying of tantruming children is necessary.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree preferred or experience/skills in working with our population. Ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to work effectively, collaboratively and respectfully with individuals, care providers, family and community members, and will require flexibility to work varying hours to meet the needs of our residents, as well as effective oral and written communication skills. · Understand and ensure EEC regulations as well as Old Colony Y policies (Child and Youth Care policy, Child Guidance Policy, Health Care Policy) are maintained at all times.
· Assist with implementing the program curriculum in accordance with EEC regulations, NAEYC standards and Old Colony YMCA'S policies.
· Assist with daily activities as well as classroom arrangement, appearance and overall learning environment.
· Maintain proper behavior of children at all times with strict adherence to both the YMCA Child Guidance Policy, and the Child Care Policy.
· Assists with Fun/Food Curriculum, menu planning and guidelines meet HEPA standards
· Understands and maintains QRIS standards
· Act in a public relations capacity when communicating with parents, school personnel and potential clients.
· Act as a positive role model.
· Maintain attendance records and all necessary reports.
· Attend mandatory training sessions and all child care meetings.
· Meet with child care teacher as directed.
· Establish and maintain working relationship with school or other site-specific personnel.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Help ensure maximum enrollment is achieved.
· Assist with the Annual Campaign and other fund-raising events.
· Adhere to all fiscal policies and procedures, such as purchase orders and employee expense.
FACILITY/HOUSEKEEPING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure a clean, organized, and safe program space.
· Communicate to appropriate staff facility issues which need to be addressed in a timely manner.
INTERDIVISIONAL AND COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITY:
· Actively participate on assigned committees and with the Y's Annual Campaign.
· Promote Y programs through public appearances and presentations.
· Attend at least 20 hours of childcare training annually.
