  • Family Home Provider

    Community Inclusion LLC

Child caregiver job in Russell, KY

Job DescriptionDescription: The Family Home Provider (FHP) serves as a live-in mentor and behavioral coach for an adult living with developmental or intellectual disabilities. Operating within the Kentucky Waiver system, this role is similar to adult foster care but with a specialized focus on stability, emotional coaching, and consistent routine. You will provide a structured home environment that prioritizes positive reinforcement over discipline. Requirements: Proactive Connection: You will practice "front-loading" attention by initiating positive, one-on-one interactions every hour. The goal is to ensure the individual feels supported and heard before frustrations arise. Emotional Literacy: You will act as a coach, helping the individual identify physical signs of stress or "internal weather" changes. By teaching them to recognize these cues early, you help prevent emotional escalation. Professional Crisis Response: In moments of verbal aggression or property destruction, you are expected to maintain a "flat affect"-staying calm, neutral, and emotionally unshakeable to help the individual de-escalate safely. Restoration & Accountability: You will oversee a "labor-for-credit" program. If property is damaged, you will guide the individual through the process of earning a replacement through chores or tasks, teaching the natural consequences of their actions in a non-punitive way. Healthy Relationship Modeling: You will provide a stable home environment where respectful, egalitarian interactions are modeled daily, helping the individual learn healthy social boundaries. Progress Tracking: You will maintain clear, objective daily logs (ABC data) to track behaviors and successes. This data allows the clinical team to adjust the support plan effectively. Collaborative Care: You will meet monthly with Behavior Support Specialists and coaches to ensure the care plan is being followed consistently and to prevent any "split" in communication. Candidate Profile Resilient & Patient: You possess the ability to remain professional and composed during oppositional or high-stress moments. Growth-Oriented: You believe in positive reinforcement. You understand that lasting change comes from rewarding good choices rather than taking away privileges. Clear Communicator: You can deliver single, clear directives and maintain "demand persistence" without getting drawn into power struggles or arguments. Safety Minded: You are prepared to follow strict emergency protocols, including providing First Aid or contacting emergency services if safety is at risk. Qualifications Must provide a safe, private bedroom and stable living environment. Must pass all required Kentucky Waiver background checks and training. Experience in behavioral health, social work, or specialized foster care is preferred but not required.
