ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises the children in the Child Watch area at all times.
Engage in safe, fun activities with all program participants at all times.
Engage fully with parents in a professional manner.
Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
Maintains program site and equipment.
Maintains a clean childcare environment.
Maintains required program records. i.e sign in/out & participant record.
Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
Be able to change diapers promptly and effectively when needed.
Must wear staff shirt and name tag when clocked in.

Qualifications:
Child Care Teachers/Caregivers shall meet the following:
Be at least 18 years of age, and able to read and write; and
A teacher who began employment in a licensed or approved child care center in South Carolina after June 30, 1994, must have at least a high school diploma or General Educational Development Certificate (GED) and a least six months' experience as a teacher in a licensed or approved child care facility. However, a teacher who is prevented from obtaining a high school diploma or GED because of a disability, and who otherwise is qualified to perform the essential functions of the position of the teacher, must have at least a high school Certificate of Completion and at least six months' experience as a teacher in a licensed or approved child care facility. If a teacher/caregiver does not meet the experience requirements, the teacher/caregiver must be directly supervised for six months by a staff person with at least one-year experience as a teacher/caregiver in a licensed or approved child care facility. Within six months of being employed, a teacher/caregiver must have six clock hours of training in child growth and development and early childhood education or shall continue to be under the direct supervision of a teacher/caregiver who has at least one year of experience as a teacher/caregiver in a licensed or approved child care facility; or
A teacher/caregiver who has two years' experience as a teacher/caregiver in a licensed or approved facility and was employed as of July 1, 1994, in a licensed or approved child care center in South Carolina ie exempt from the high school diploma, General Education Development (GED), and Certificate of Completion requirements of (2) above.
Exception: A teacher/caregiver with an undergraduate degree from a state approved college or university in early childhood, child development, elementary education, or a related field may begin working with the children immediately without additional supervision as long as they have 60 days' field experience with a group of children aged 0-8.
Exception: A teacher/caregiver may be 17 years of age if he/she has received his/her GED or high school diploma and is continuously supervised by a qualified teacher/caregiver who is in the room at all times.
Exception: Staff persons who were employed prior to the effective date of these revised regulations are not required to meet the staff qualifications specified if the staff qualifications required in the prior regulations are met. If a teacher/caregiver has had more than a twelve-month break in service, the new guidelines shall be met for re-employment as a teacher/caregiver.
General Statement of Job:
Reports to the Childcare Director.
Under supervision, provides supervised care for children birth - 5 years old. Staff members are charged with promoting creativity and independence through activities that address physical, social, cognitive, and emotional growth.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Follows all federal, state, district, and DSS guidelines including management of all required documentation and reporting.
Performs all duties as assigned by the director.
Exhibits positive behavior toward children, parents, staff, and administrators.
Conducts self as a positive role model in the program and community.
Supervises small groups of children. Assures there is adequate active supervision of students at all times.
Planning and preparation for various types of indoor and outdoor activities for the assigned group. Activities are engaging and developmentally appropriate and follow the SC Early Learning Standards. Activities include stories, music, art, cooking, living skills, puzzles, indoor and outdoor play.
Assists in supervising and/or feeding children during meal times.
Assures that each child leaves only with his/her parent or guardian, or by prior arrangement, with another person that has written permission on file with the daycare staff.
Assures that the building is secure and areas used are clean after the program is over each day. Shares in the responsibility of school cleanliness and neatness (indoors and outdoors).
Attends required staff development training as required by the director.
Maintains confidentiality regarding children and their progress.
Speaks to every child and parent upon arrival and departure of center in a positive manner. Interacts with children at all times.
Serves as a positive voice to parents and the community regarding the SDPC Child Care program.
Maintains proper sanitation when diapering.
Maintains a folder containing current and pertinent data on each child.
Assures correct daily attendance records are taken and maintained.
Communicates frequently with daycare director, school staff, children, parents, and office administration.
Helps children remove outer garments.
Organizes and participates in games, reads to children, and teaches them simple painting, drawing, handwork, songs, and similar activities.
Directs children in eating, resting, and toileting.
Helps children develop habits of caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books.
Maintains discipline.
Serves meals and refreshments to children and regulates rest periods.
Assists in preparing food and cleaning quarters.
Confers with parents on progress of students.
Oversees the administration of students' medicine or other health care requirements.
Reports inappropriate student behavior and prepares the necessary incident reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises the children in the Child Watch area at all times.
Engage in safe, fun activities with all program participants at all times.
Engage fully with parents in a professional manner.
Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
Maintains program site and equipment.
Maintains a clean childcare environment.
Maintains required program records. i.e sign in/out & participant record.
Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
Be able to change diapers promptly and effectively when needed.
Must wear staff shirt and name tag when clocked in.
