Primary function:
Child Care caregivers are responsible for operations and functions of the Child Care program. Caregivers carry out policies, rules and regulations, functions and activities prescribed and approved by the Director and Building Principal. Caregivers provide supervision for all children and activities in the Child Care Program.
Responsibilities:
• Provide appropriate environment and supervision for homework, rest, socialization, recreation, craft, games, and other daily activities.
• Work with and supervise children in a warm, positive, and caring manner.
• Compliment and reinforce positive student behavior. Correct misbehavior in a manner consistent with positive child development techniques and Child Care policy.
• Actively engage in a variety of learning and recreational activities with children.
• Greet children, parents, and visitors in a warm and caring manner each day.
• Take accurate daily attendance, cross-referencing absences with the school office or the child's parent.
• Assess daily each child's state of health to determine the type and level of activity that is appropriate for the day.
• Supervise children on the playground, strictly enforcing all equipment rules and safety regulations.
• Assist the Site Leader and building custodian in maintaining building cleanliness.
• Escort children throughout the building and supervise snack periods.
• Provide first aid for minor injuries, and report such injuries appropriately to the Site Leader, parent, and Director. For more serious injuries, contact 911 and call parent immediately. Submit accident reports for all accidents and injuries.
• Document and report to the Site Leader any extraordinary or unusual behavior, physical or emotional stress, signs and symptoms of physical or emotional abuse, or any other behaviors not generally encountered on a daily basis.
• Cooperate with Site Leader, Director, and Building Principal to maintain good staff relations and child care practices.
• Keep accurate time records and submit bi-weekly to Site Leader.
• Attend periodic workshops and staff trainings as scheduled by the Child Care Director.
• Attend periodic staff meetings to plan activities and discuss current issues.
• Perform other duties consistent with good childcare practices, as assigned by the Site Leader, Director, or Building Principal.

JOB SUMMARY: The Christel House DORS Drop In Childcare is designed to offer free, temporary, short-term childcare for the students of Christel House DORS. Our ultimate goal is for the parents/guardians to work with Drop In Childcare staff to apply for CCDF vouchers or On My Way Pre-K to secure long term, high quality childcare if qualified. DORS students may use the drop in childcare center only while on site, attending a Christel House class, training, or program. Parents/guardians remain on campus while their child(ren) are in the drop in childcare.
The Drop In Childcare Attendant is responsible for ensuring a safe, caring, and positive experience for all children in the drop in center and their families. They will be an active collaborator with other DORS staff, providing the DORS team with data on attendance, CCDF applications, etc. The attendant monitors the safety and well-being of children while in their care, while facilitating learning opportunities for the students. The attendance is responsible for communicating with parents/guardians about drop in childcare center events, activities, policies and procedures.
HOURS: This is a PRN (as needed) position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create an environment conducive to learning for child(ren) in attendance, plan and facilitate hands on activities daily.
Be adaptable to the work environment in order to meet the needs of the children; maintain effectiveness when changes in the workplace occur.
Engage as an active collaborative team member with DORS staff.
Create a culture and climate that is welcoming to all staff and students.
Use conflict resolution to resolve issues proactively and in a productive manner.
Ensure sufficient operations and aid in achieving goals for the drop in childcare and Christel House DORS are in place.
Assist in the registration process and track attendance.
Recognize risk in activities of children and ability to manage those risks ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
Maintain regular and ongoing contact with parents/guardians.
Maintain cleanliness of center and compliance with safety standards

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 18 years of age.
Continuing education credits, certification or degree in early childhood education, child development, education, or a related field preferred.
Child/Infant CPR certified or willing to obtain before start date.
Previous work experience in a childcare facility.
Ability and willingness to work collaboratively; maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis
All Christel House staff must successfully pass a pre-employment background check as they are directly caring for minors.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Duties
Manage an assigned caseload of homes, centers, and/or ministries, maintaining regular contact and providing ongoing support
Monitor participating sites on a schedule set by CACFP guidelines, conducting on-site visits to review performance and ensure all records are current and accurate
Review menus, monthly attendance, participation records, and all required documentation for compliance
Provide technical assistance- through in-person visits, written communication, phone, or virtual methods-to support program compliance
Maintain daily communication with providers by returning calls, texts, and emails, and keeping in regular contact with the CACFP Manager
Attend and assist with meetings and training sessions to maintain provider relationships and stay current with CACFP updates
Assist in maintaining complete and accurate program sponsor documentation and records in accordance with CACFP guidelines
Requirements
Reliable transportation in order to travel throughout Northern and Central Indiana
Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft applications
CACFP Experience
