POSITION SUMMARY:
The overnight child care worker is responsible for the safety and supervision of the children during these critical overnight and early morning hours. This counselor must remain awake, and is responsible to ensure the students are safe at all times and comfortable throughout the night.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Respond to all needs of the students throughout the night and morning hours, including but not limited to supervision, support, crisis intervention, and behavior management.
Conduct child checks at least 4 times each hour; more frequently when identified as at risk for self-harm or running away.
Follow all special instruction related to individual students. (Example: sit outside door until child falls asleep; wake child during the night to prevent bedwetting).
Assist day staff with morning routine, waking children, supervising breakfast, and ensuring proper hygiene practices.
Complete students daily logs.
Ensure any concerns are appropriately communicated to all agency personnel including high-risk behaviors.
May be delegated and trained to conduct medication administration or certain medical procedure responsibilities for students.
Some lifting and restraints may be required when working with young students or students with special needs, however, TLC embraces and celebrates a spirit of inclusion and diversity, and reasonable accommodations and modifications will be made whenever possible. Mercy Centre is a program of Catholic Charities located in West Boylston, Massachusetts. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy and Catholic Charities in the 1960s, the program serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ages eighteen and over, in four different programs from the Worcester County extended area. The Adult Services programs have been in existence for about sixty years. We are seeking Day Habilitation Direct Care Worker to join our team!
Primary Responsibilities: As a member of the Mercy Centre Day Habitation Program, provide quality care, independence, and services for individuals in the program. Be responsible for planning and implementing instructional activities in the facility and in the community. Provide instruction, guidance, supervision, documentation and role modeling.
Essential Duties:
Implement skills activities in relationship to identified curriculums.
Design individualized activities that teach and reinforce safety and survival skills.
Develop an understanding of the individual needs, goals and level of required assistance of all to insure safety and comfort while maintaining the development of age appropriate behaviors.
Provide individualized ADL activities in the community.
Develop ADL activities that facilitate social integration and community membership.
Provide ADL activities that can be carried over to and incorporated into the community.
Maintain documentation of training provided, techniques used and cue levels utilized.
Provide individualized documentation on progress.
Collect data relating to goals and objectives.
Complete incident sheets, seizure reports, progress notes and any other documentation necessary to ensure compliance with Agency standards, DMR regulations or Program policies.
Provide transportation for individuals either in agency vehicle or personal vehicle.
Provide exemplary role modeling behaviors.
Participate in regular staff meetings, in-service training and other staff development
Provide communities access opportunities for assigned program participants
Help to facilitate and maintain a positive work environment
Maintain required acceptable standards and procedure of the agency, as well as the host companies
Work cooperatively with the entire staff
Provide exemplary role modeling behaviors
Other duties are expected to be performed as requested
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
One to two years year experience in human services or related field
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to present oneself professionally and pragmatically to program participants, families, guardians, the business community and representatives from other agencies.
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently, and to communicate effectively.
Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive reports, progress notes, evaluations, etc.
Ability to interact positively with program and agency staff.
Ability to transport program participants in personal vehicle, if necessary.
Must be able to be consistent in implementing daily routine.
Licenses/Certifications:
Adult CPR and First Aid. If not possessed at the time of hire, employees must attain certification within six months of hire, and maintain annually thereafter.
Must submit to a CORI (Criminal Offenders Record Information) which shows no offenses.
Must provide evidence of a recent Mantoux Skin Test for TB, and maintain compliance with health regulation throughout employment.
Must possess valid Massachusetts Driver's License, appropriate insurance coverage and maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.
