Follow appropriate practices to keep children safe during all activities, including, at a minimum:
Reporting of suspected or known child abuse and neglect to Franklin County Children Services according to agency procedures and the Ohio Revised Code Section 2151.421.

The OHCAC Head Start Classrooms provide high-quality care for children during the critical first 2,000 days of life by operating 8 learning centers, serving children birth through five years old, in Marion, Morrow, Crawford, & Richland counties. Base Pay: $16.00 hour

Job Summary
Help maintain exciting, caring, nurturing, and positive learning environments to foster exploration.

Primarily responsible for assisting the team teachers in conducting activities, maintaining classroom environment, and supervising children.
Required Qualifications:
High-school diploma or equivalency
Have at least a CDA (ChildDevelopment Associate), are enrolled in a CDA program to be completed within 2 years, or are enrolled in a program leading to an Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
Valid Driver's License and the ability to be insured under the agency policy
Must obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and Communicable Disease training

Essential Functions:
The Assistant Teacher is primarily responsible for achieving the following outcomes for the Head Start/Early Head Start program:
Education, Disabilities and School Readiness
Assists teacher in assessing each child's growth and development by sharing observations and encouraging parental input when possible.
Coordinates with team teachers to plan and implement a daily schedule of developmentally appropriate activities to be used individually and in small and large group settings in the classroom.
Helps provide quality teacher interactions with children based on the implementation of CLASS (Head Start) and TPITOS (Early Head Start).
Supports the social, emotional, cognitive, language and physical development of children in the classroom.
Eats with the children in a family-style setting and provides activities to support and broaden each child's food experiences.
Health and Safety
Maintains a clean, safe and emotionally supportive environment that is centered on the needs and abilities of each child.
Fosters safety awareness among children and parents by incorporating activities into the program.
Follows good hygiene practices and promotes it for others in the classroom.
Promotes effective dental hygiene among children in conjunction with meals.
Family Engagement and Support
Assists with planning a variety of opportunities for interaction with parents throughout the year.
Supports team teachers with home and center communications and parent involvement.
Respects each family's diversity and cultural and ethnic background.
Human Resources and Supervision
Complete all required paperwork, time sheets, and certifications required of the position.
Report to supervisor on a regular basis.
5. Communication and Service Coordination
Assists with recruitment to ensure that full enrollment is maintained throughout the year.
Serves as a bus monitor on scheduled pick-up and take-home routes when assigned by supervisor.
6. Planning, Analysis and Documentation
Assists with setting up for meals in classroom, takes meal counts and records, and cleans up following meal time.
Supports team teacher with Child Plus documentation.
7. Operations and Facilities
Assist Lead Teacher and Center Coordinator in arrangement, materials and equipment, and safety of classroom and center.
Participate in monthly and yearly safety checks of facilities.
8. Program Governance
Participate in staff meetings and other meetings to become familiar with the philosophies, regulations, and policies of the program.
9. Professionalism and Leadership
Creates and updates a professional development plan with the Center Coordinator and shares obtained information from any training attended with colleagues as appropriate.
Participates in team teaching, staff meetings, conferences, required agency trainings, institutes of higher learning, and other opportunities that enhance professional development.
Maintains confidentiality in all areas for children, families and staff.

Physical Requirements:
- Comfortable being on your feet and moving around the classroom throughout the day

- Experience working in special education, particularly with moderate to severe behaviors
