A Brief Overview
Responsible for assisting the physician in caring for the patient and family in accordance with organization protocols, policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
Assists in the assessment of the health status of individuals including the delivery of patient care to patients and families under the direction of RN or LPN. • Performs treatments, procedures, diagnostic testing and medication/immunization administration in a compassionate manner under the direction of a licensed practitioner. • Collects data regarding patient's vital signs and growth and development when interviewing patients/families in the office. • Coordinates the scheduling of diagnostic tests and procedures with the patient/family, physicians/hospitals and the insurance companies as directed by the provider. • Assists the physician or nurse practitioner in patient teaching as directed or according to clinic protocol. • Demonstrates knowledge and delivers suitable care tailored to the corresponding stage of the life cycle. • Completes all required patient care documentation and reporting in accurate and timely manner within the electronic medical record. • Responds appropriately in crisis situations or life threatening emergencies. • Takes direction from the physician or nurse practitioner in the delivery on patient care. • Assists with clerical duties as directed by the office manager.

Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or current and valid national certification as a Medical Assistant (NCMA) Required

A Brief Overview
Performs blood specimen collection, point of care testing, sweat test collection and culture set up according to standardized procedures. Assists physicians with bone marrow collection and slide preparation as needed. Inventories and stocks phlebotomy supplies. Utilizes the LIS for specimen verification and collection.
Essential Functions
Obtains blood specimens from patients, using standardized capillary or venipuncture procedures.
Adheres to established safety procedures.
Performs point-of-care testing including documentation of quality control testing and troubleshooting as required to ensure proper instrument function and assure accurate patient results.
Collects specimens for sweat testing using standardized procedures.
Assists with bone marrow examinations by preparing reagents and supplies, maintains sterile field and prepares adequate diagnostic slides.
Processes specimens for microbiological culture using sterile technique. Inoculates the proper and stores in the appropriate location. Prepares smear for gram staining.
Verifies and enters specimen collection times via LIS.
Maintains inventory of phlebotomy supplies. Requests supplies and stocks incoming inventory.
Performs maintenance procedures and function checks on laboratory equipment, to include safety equipment.
Supports new staff, current staff, and students in Orientation, Training, and Competency.
Participates throughout the year in proficiency testing.
Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
