* The Physician Assistant provides care of the critically ill neonate in the neonatal ICU and SCN

Job Summary
The physician assistant (PA) is a licensed provider who has acquired a broad range of knowledge and skills through the successful completion of a physician assistant program. The PA works closely with the physicians in the Urogynecology division to meet the physical, psychological and social needs of patients and their families. The PA may act as the primary resource to the inpatient and outpatient staff in dealing with both routine (rounding, discharge preparation) and acute patient management issues, contacting the attending in emergent situations (or as needed). Operative duties include assisting in surgeries and managing postoperative care under the supervision of the attending staff. Outpatient duties will include seeing patients for office/emergency room visits for preoperative and postoperative or acute issues; returning phone calls for routine, pre-operative and post-operative patients, as well as managing prescription refills and other necessary paperwork.
The physician assistant works under the s\supervision of an attending physician and reports directly to the department administrator or chief physician assistant administratively. The PA is expected to travel to different Urogynecology clinic and hospital sites
Qualifications
Inpatient and Operating room clinical duties
* Assist surgeons of the Urogyn team in the operating room
* Write orders for inpatients and outpatients
* Complete scripts for inpatients and outpatients
* Complete discharge summaries for inpatients and outpatients
* Care of hospitalized Urogynecologic patients:
* Perform admission history and physical exam and accurately record in the patient record
* Change surgical dressings
* Remove sutures and staples
* Write daily progress notes
* Write orders
* Dictate discharge summaries and/or complete discharge paper work
* Assist in making appropriate post hospitalization appointments and referrals
* Communicate with referring health care providers and institutions
* Write prescriptions
* Respond to Urogynecologic inpatient floor pages to evaluate situations that may represent variance in normal hospital course.
* Act as liaison between Urogynecologic inpatient floors/patient care teams and outpatient area, or in the case of transfer within the hospital, other care entities.
* Round with individual team members as requested, report back to team leaders
* Implement attending physician instructions for patient management in close cooperation with nursing staff
* Perform procedures within the PA scope of practice and as directed by the attending including:
* Order and interpret appropriate laboratory testing and other special examinations as requested

* Teach patients on the care of catheters and intermittent self catheterization

* Perform PTNS procedures for patients with overactive bladder
General Duties
* Work collaboratively and function as an efficient member of the health care team
* Assist in the coordination of consultation of other sub-specialists involved in the care of patients
* Provide education to patients and families
* Document in the medical record as appropriate and communicate observations/findings with attending physicians
* Monitor environment of care and comply with regulatory agency standards

QUALIFICATIONS:
The appropriate candidate will have successfully completed a graduate level physician assistant program (Master's degree) accredited by the Accreditation and Review Committee for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA) or such other accrediting agency as may qualify a graduate to sit for the NCCPA certifying examination. BS/MS joint programs and those candidates with a BS and PA certificate are eligible, but ONLY for those who graduated BEFORE 1995. Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) must be obtained prior to first day of employment. Must hold a current valid license or be eligible for licensure as a physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Must have or eligible for, and maintain, a current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration. Must complete 100 hours of CME according to national and state regulations during each two year period of employment.

Key Responsibilities * Care for inpatient pediatric and adult patients with cardiac medical issues including congenital heart disease, arrhythmia, heart failure, and pre and post heart transplant management

* Coordinate care for management of acute and chronic medical issues
