Department Overview
Children's Minnesota Genetics/Genomics Department is the only clinical genetics/genomics program in Minnesota exclusively dedicated to the diagnosis and clinical care of pediatric patients and childhood conditions. Our department consists of a talented team of four geneticists, fourteen genetic counselors, three genetic counseling assistants, one clinic nurse, one metabolic dietitian, and two pharmacogenomics pharmacists. Our comprehensive enterprise-wide practice supports end-to-end genetics services and integrates genetic counselors into critical specialty services such as hematology/oncology, cardiology, neonatology, immunology, neurology, and pulmonology.
With the growing impact and accessibility of genomic testing, we are expanding our scope of personalized care more broadly into pediatric and adolescent care with the implementation of a nationally recognized pediatric pharmacogenomics program.
Position Summary
The successful candidate will build and expand precision medicine in collaboration with our therapeutic and diagnostic services program. They will integrate genomic and other healthcare data into electronic health records for point-of-care insights, apply data-driven strategies to enhance care and reduce costs, advocate for improved payor coverage of pediatric/adolescent genomic testing, and develop educational programs to foster the future potential of precision health in pediatric and adolescent populations.
This position will provide outpatient clinical care and inpatient consultations at Children's Minnesota's Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver personalized care to pediatric and adolescent patients.
If interested, opportunities to participate in clinical and research projects evaluating our genetics and precision health programs as well as clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and genetic counseling students. Examples include rapid genome sequencing in intensive care settings in collaboration with a large children's hospital consortium.
The selected individual will bring experience in developing teams in clinical settings, a proven track record of successfully collaborating with clinical and administrative leadership across departmental boundaries. Experience with government advocacy, and familiarity with integrating research and clinical efforts for discovery and/or healthcare optimization. Strong working knowledge of electronic health record development. Expertise in genomics and health record data analysis and utilization.
Qualifications:
Board-eligible/certified in Clinical Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics.
Additional clinical experience in medical or clinical biochemical genetics is preferred, as successful applicants should be comfortable caring for patients with inborn errors of metabolism as well as general genetic diagnoses.
Eligible for a Minnesota medical license and will need credentialing with several area hospitals that the Genetics service provides care for.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a practicing physician in the clinical practice area that they will lead, except when hiring the first physician at Children's Minnesota in a particular specialty, in which case minimum experience will be determined by the Chief Medical Officer.
Leadership experience and familiarity with quality improvement work, safety initiatives, systems-based practice, patient-centered care.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
Maintains a clean, safe, sanitary environment according to infection prevention and quality standards.

Neuromuscular Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Fellow

Gillette Children's is seeking a BC/BE Orthopedic physician for a 6-month neuromuscular subspecialty fellowship, anticipated to start August 2025. The goal of this 6-month neuromuscular subspecialty fellowship training program is to provide fellowship-trained pediatric orthopaedic surgeons with advanced subspecialty training area of neuromuscular orthopaedic care.
This fellowship, while surgical in nature, has a strong clinical component. The fellow will participate in clinic with staff physician, with exposure to both pediatric and adult patients with neuromuscular disorders. The fellow will also participate in in multi-disciplinary clinics, including spasticity evaluation clinic, spina bifida, early motor delay, neuromuscular upper extremity, and muscular dystrophy clinics. They will have the opportunity to work with the Gillette physiatrist physicians in Botox and Phenol injections, and upon interest, observe the neurosurgery team in performing selective dorsal rhizotomies and baclofen pump implantations.
The teaching will take place through a variety of methods including:
one-on-one teaching with the faculty physicians in the outpatient clinic, inpatient unit, and in the operating room
Didactic teaching in morning conferences
Dedicated time in the fellow's schedule for scholarly activity including self-directed learning and research
Formal gait analysis interpretation certification with gait lab physicians, physical therapists, and engineers.
The fellow will work alongside orthopaedic surgery residents in a collaborative and supportive manner to ensure a mutually beneficial experience for all parties involved in education. Hopefully, the fellow can assume a teaching role in some situations in the outpatient clinic and in the operating room to augment the resident learning experience and the fellow teaching experience.

When working in a skilled, long term care facility, must be eligible for certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional by a recognized accrediting body. Successful completion of an accredited training program approved by state preferred.
The following requirements are all dependent upon the on work location:
Current Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification or currently enrolled as a student in a healthcare related program preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS).
Depending on location, this role classifies as a Sanford Category I or II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver's license. Also must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of this position as per our Sanford Driving Policy.

Compares the documentation in the medical record against required standards and enters deficiencies for providers in the electronic medical record system.

Job Description
Understands regulatory standards for accurate medical records. Performs record analysis by abstracting and recognizes the relation of a complete medical record. Applies knowledge of disease processes, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, state laws and other regulatory standards in the analysis of the medical record. Utilizes job specific software in analysis and monitoring functions. Maintains software system competence including the electronic medical record (EMR) and document imaging at a high level. Completes admission and discharge related functions including retrieval of previous medical records. Scans and captures documents in an extremely timely manner, and confirms capture clarity and quality. Indexes medical record documents using document imaging software. Completes document imaging accuracy checks and audits. Monitors timeliness and completion of various medical record components to assure Federal/State regulatory compliance. Enters and maintains medical professional information in the EMR. Requires knowledge and application of coding guidelines and regulations in the assignment of diagnosis codes and sequencing specific to location and department guidelines. Assigns codes to appropriate medical diagnoses based on review of supporting documentation, and ensures these are captured for timely and accurate billing for all payers. Maintain application of facility policies and standards of practice to assure release of information requests (ROI) are appropriate and meet legal regulations. Processes ROI requests within requested timeframes. Prepares and generates reports as requested. Will work extensively with protected health information and is required to adhere to health insurance portability and accountability act (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations and policies related to the same. Handles requests for release of information according to policies, and maintain security of health information and medical records. Supports and educates others on managing private information. Prepares and participates in Health Department survey activity. Supports providers and other clinicians on EMR usage and workflows.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in Health Information or Medical Record Technology preferred.
Experience in health care or long-term care preferred.
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred.
