When Chipotle (pronounced chi-POAT-lay) opened its first store in 1993, the idea was simple: demonstrate that food served fast didn't have to be a "fast-food" experience. We use high-quality raw ingredients, classic cooking methods and distinctive interior design--features that are more frequently found in the world of fine dining. When we opened, there wasn't an industry category to describe what we were doing. Some 20 years and more than 1,600 restaurants later, we compete in a category of dining now called "fast-casual," the fastest growing segment of the restaurant industry, where customers expect food quality that's more in line with full-service restaurants, coupled with the speed and convenience of fast food.
The staff at Chipotle Mexican Grill come from unusually diverse demographic backgrounds. The company is 51.5% female and 42.8% ethnic minorities. Even though it has great demographic diversity, Chipotle Mexican Grill notably lacks in political diversity. It has an unusually high proportion of employees who are members of the Democratic Party, at 84.0%. Despite having coworkers who agree with each other about politics, employees at Chipotle Mexican Grill tend to have relatively short tenures. Staff members usually stay with the company for 2.2 years. The average employee at Chipotle Mexican Grill makes $32,507 per year. In comparison, some of its highest paying competitors, like Rubio's Restaurants, The Cheesecake Factory, and In-N-Out Burger, pay $39,252, $36,769, and $35,147, respectively.
Based in Newport Beach, CA, Chipotle Mexican Grill is an industry leader with 64,570 employees and an annual revenue of $7.5B.
