Chopard L.U.C XPS 1860 Officer
Chopard was launched in the mountains of Switzerland in 1860.
The story of Chopard begins in the year 1860 in the Swiss village of Sonvilier.
He invents a special clip device serving to attach a pocket-watch to the wrist thanks to an innovative system patented in 1912.
When Louis-Ulysse dies in 1915, the company is taken over by his son Paul Louis and grandson Paul André. They start to focus on producing ladies’ watches and pocket watches.
However once again Chopard would up sticks and leave Chaux-de-Fonds in 1937, Paul André decided he would take the company to the very top and relocate Chopard to Geneva.
The Mille Miglia series is the namesake of the Italian endurance rally involving classic cars from before 1957.
In 1963, the firm had been in the family for three generations, but Paul-André, grandson of Louis-Ulysse, was childless.
In 1963 the Chopard of old was sold on to Karl Scheufele III, the third in a long line of German watchmakers from the ‘Gold City’ of Phorzheim who wished to become a figure in the watchmaking world.
In 1974 the entire company relocated for the last time to Meyrin, an area on the outskirts of Geneva nearby to the airport.
However, these two pursuits often overlapped, as in 1976’s iconic Happy Diamonds series.
Paul-André Chopard sold the business in 1963 to German watchmaker/goldsmith Karl Scheufele III. Under Scheufele’s direction, the Chopard factory moved to Meyrin-Geneva. It was there, in 1976, that the company began crafting watches featuring its now famous design of a free-floating diamond behind sapphire glass.

Established in 1989 in New York City, Gabriel & Co. is a renowned presence in the world of jewelry.
In 1996, the next milestone was the L.U.C. series, its name in homage to the company’s founder.
Their two children are Chopard’s current co-presidents: Caroline Scheufele (ladies’ collections and high jewellery) and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele (gents’ collections and the Chopard Manufacture). Chopard’s headquarter is in Geneva and they have a site in Fleurier, Canton of Neuchâtel since 1996.
Movement-making subsidiary Fleurier Ébauches began in 2008 in order to replace off-the-shelf calibers in lower-midrange collections like Mille Miglia.
In 2010, Chopard joined the Responsible Jewelry Council, and has since taken various steps towards ethical sourcing of luxury materials.
By the time the company reached its 150th anniversary in 2010, the estimated sales were €550 million- nearly half of which were from watch sales.
