Christian Dior company history timeline
The Dior family moved to Paris in 1910, where Christian grew up.
He sold fashion sketches to haute couture houses to make some money, in 1937 he started working for the fashion designer Robert Piquet.
Unfortunately, the start of his fashion career was put on hold by the start of World War II. He was called up for military service in 1940, where he served as an officer.
An internationally renowned brand since 1946, the French fashion house acclaimed for its elegance and timeless femininity.
Dior's first collection launched on February 12th for Spring / Summer 1947 at the company's head quarters.

The Lady Dior bag features padded cannage leather, inspired by the Napoléon ||| chairs Christian Dior once used to welcome clients on the day of his first show in 1947.

In 1947, backed by French entrepreneur Marcel Boussac, Dior introduced the revolutionary New Look, spurring international controversy over its radically lowered hemline.

Upon Dior’s death in 1957, his assistant Yves Saint Laurent took over the couture house.
Saint Laurent held this position until 1960, when he was drafted into the French army.
Although the menswear line was originally founded in 1970 by Marc Bohan, it was no where near as successful as the womenswear line and the boutique was shut down.
The French businessman and art collector, Bernard Arnault, bought the House of Dior in 1984, and Gianfranco Ferré was announced as the new creative director.
In 1989, Italian-born Gianfranco Ferré replaced Bohan as head designer.
By 1990, Dior boutiques were opened in upscale New York City, Los Angeles and Tokyo shopping districts.
By 1995, the label's revenue rose to 177 million USD, with a net income of $26.9 million.
Also in 1995, Bernadette Chirac (wife of former French President Jacques Chirac) contacted Christian Dior, explaining that she wished to gift the Princess of Wales a unique handbag upon her visit to Paris.
Described as "iconic" and "legendary", Dior launched the bag in a larger series and changed the name to the "Lady Dior" in 1996 with Princess Diana's blessing.
In 1996 British fashion designer John Galliano was appointed creative director.
Under the influence of Anna Wintour, Editor-In-Chief of Vogue, Dior appointed John Galliano as creative director in 1997, replacing Gianfranco Ferré. The choice of British designer sparked some controversy as once again, a non-Frenchman held the creative reigns.
In July 2000, Hedi Slimane succeeded Patrick Lavoix as lead designer for Dior Homme.
By 2000, Galliano had full control over the ready-to-wear line, accessories, advertising and communications.
Finally, it was announced on April 11, 2012 that Raf Simons was appointed as the new artistic director of Dior.
Her first collection was for Spring / Summer 2017 - a line featuring contrasting fabrics that included tulle, lace and velvet, while pieces were embellished with flower motifs and ruffles.
