A3 is a 24-bed unit providing high-acuity care for cardiac and medical-surgical patients with various co-morbidities. We care for post-cardiac intervention patients (e.g., heart catheterizations, AAA stent repairs, TAVRs, EP ablations, pacemaker/ICD placements) and manage specialized devices like Impellas and IABPs, Artic Sun and Tablo XT. We also treat ventilator-dependent patients and those with conditions like hypertension, diabetes, GI bleeds, peripheral vascular disease and renal disease. The unit handles multiple infusions for blood pressure, cardiac issues, thrombolytics, sedation and paralytics, as well as post-surgical ICU care. The Intensive Care Unit is a 10-bed, modern unit specializing in the care of the critically ill adult and elderly adult. We have an average daily census of 8. This unit also monitors as many as 24 telemetry units. The most frequent medical diagnoses seen are Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, COPD, Septic Shock, CVA, Overdoses, Hypertensive Crisis, Pneumonia and DKA. Common surgical conditions are Appendectomy, Exploratory laparotomy, Cholecystectomy (laparoscopic and open procedures), Bowel Resection, Hysterectomy and Amputation. The Spohn Kleberg ICU team is known for their expertise, loyalty, teamwork and dedication. They are excellent mentors and have helped many new nurses and students succeed. The Emergency Department of CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Kleberg is a 12-bed unit organized and designed for the immediate treatment of emergency medical and/or surgical conditions. We have a Medical provider 24 hours per day with An Advance Practitioner 9 hours per day. The Emergency Department had been designated a Level IV Trauma Center by Texas Department of Health. The department is responsible for initiating life saving procedures in all types of emergency situations and for providing emergency care for other conditions, including chronic medical problems and minor injuries and illnesses. After emergency measures are implemented the patient may be transferred within the hospital, to another institution, or discharged home. Our average daily census is 60. The most frequent medical diagnoses seen are R/O Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Failure, Pneumonia, Cardiovascular conditions, cardiopulmonary conditions, Diabetes Mellitus, Hepatitis, Pancreatitis, URI and Urosepsis. The most frequent surgical conditions are appendicitis, fractured hip and spontaneous abortion. The ER staff work closely with the community by providing education on disease process and safety measures. We also volunteer our time and service to help out our local naval base during events such as "Wings over Texas" and our surrounding areas with events such as, "Beach to Bay." Our team has been recognized for exceeding the goal for treating a MI or stroke patient. They have made changes to the overall flow in the ER to improve the door to doctor times and over all patient experience. We have earned the Silver Award from the American Heart Association for our Stroke Care. The Patient Sitter watches over the patient and ensures the patient is in a safe environment at all times. * The Patient Sitter will report to the nurse or charge nurse should the patient try to get out of bed, pull on their tubes, or display other behavior that may cause harm to themselves or others. * Suicide and high-risk patients MUST be attended at all times. * The Patient Sitter must have the ability to maintain appropriate precautions for suicidal patients as indicated in the Suicidal Patient Policy. * The Patient Sitter must have the ability to maintain visual contact with the patient at all times, including toileting. * The Patient Sitter may provide assistance with direct patient care under the direction of a licensed professional. These duties may include turning, feeding, bathing, and bathroom needs. * The Patient Sitter must communicate with the patient care team to include other Patient Sitters, CNAs, LVNs, or RNs by receiving report at the beginning of the shift. * The Patient Sitter must accompany the patient while off the floor for procedures and may not take the patient to smoke, to the cafeteria or gift shop. Requirements: Education/Skills * High School diploma or equivalent Experience * Previous related experience preferred Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications * CPR (American Heart Association) * BLS * De-escalation training required within 90 days of hire/transfer date Work Schedule: PRN Work Type: Per Diem As Needed
