The medical-surgical unit at Shoreline Hospital provides exceptional care for Ortho, Oncology, and Med/Surg patients. Our RNs care for patients with elective surgeries, fractures from the ER, and medical overflow. Our Inpatient Oncology department is the only acute inpatient unit in the region. We take care of patients who come in who may have a new or existing cancer diagnosis. We treat them with chemotherapy/hematology interventions when indicated, or may be treating them for symptoms related to recently having chemotherapy. We also care for patients who may have a secondary diagnosis related to having cancer. Our wonderful team is passionate about taking care of our oncology population. Our focus is to create an environment that manages serious situations/conditions with the sensitivity needed to enhance and invoke physical and emotional healing reflective of CHRISTUS Spohn's Mission

The unit is a 22-bed Neuro/Surgical ICU, with neuro being the primary focus. We admit a vast array of patients including Strokes with and without TNK administration, head trauma, craniotomies, aneurysm repairs, ICP monitoring, EVD placement/monitoring, and organ procurement. From a surgical standpoint, we care for all patients out of PACU (GI, ORTHO, SPINAL, etc.) with exception to any open hearts. We also admit medical ICU patients and on occasion will take overflow cardiac patients. The floor often has many bedside procedures; chest tube, bronchoscopy, and EGD, to name a few. We have great teamwork and a family atmosphere.

6NT is a 36 - private bed unit specializing in cardiac care for patients who have had open heart surgery. We see cardiovascular/thoracic patients that are post-CABG, heart caths, valve replacements, thoracotomies, and many other cardiothoracic surgical procedures. We also see general medical-surgical patients that may have a primary cardiac diagnosis or history with comorbidities that may need telemetry monitoring, as well as those patients needing critical cardiac drips. On 6NT, we train our staff to detect medical issues before they become a problem, so they can respond to those emergent situations quickly and confidently. We have many opportunities for assessments, patient/family teaching, IVs, wound care, lab value analysis and medication administration/ management. Summary:
Responsible for patient assessment, patient care planning, and provision of quality nursing care to an assigned group of patients for a defined work period. The Intensive Care Unit is a 10-bed, modern unit specializing in the care of the critically ill adult and elderly adult. Special procedures include but are not limited to: intubations with mechanical ventilator management, arterial lines, TEE, insertion of temporary pacemakers and external pacing, and cardiac drips. We have an average daily census of 8. This unit also monitors as many as 24 telemetry units. The most frequent medical diagnoses seen are Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, COPD, Septic Shock, CVA, Overdoses, Hypertensive Crisis, Pneumonia and DKA. Common surgical conditions are Appendectomy, Exploratory laparotomy, Cholecystectomy (laparoscopic and open procedures), Bowel Resection, Hysterectomy and Amputation.
The Spohn Kleberg ICU team is known for their expertise, loyalty, team work and dedication. They are excellent mentors and have helped many new nurses and students succeed. They provide excellent patient care and strive for customer satisfaction, which is evident by the unit consistently exceeding Press Ganey scores.
