As a member of the health care team, evaluates and treats patients with cognitive, communication and swallowing deficits within the scope of a licensed Speech/Language Pathologist. Collaborates with other hospital personnel to ensure quality care for the patient. Supervises the activities of Therapy Technicians, Speech/Language Pathology Clinical Fellows, and Speech/Language Pathology Students.
Responsibilities:
Gathers pertinent data from chart and other care givers, discusses with physician as necessary
Independently assess all patient types assigned
Demonstrates ability to recognize additional needs during evaluation; exercises good judgment in decision
Interprets results and formulates relevant, measurable, realistic and attainable goals
Reassess patient progress regularly per department policy, or when need arises
Identifies appropriate equipment, discusses with patient and family and makes appropriate referral to social services and/or vendor
Able to assess vent dependent patients with minimal assistance
Able to assess voice and fluency cases with some assistance
Able to independently design a treatment plan that address' identified problems, deficits and discharge needs and assist with reducing LOS
Consistently delivers effective treatment focused on rehab of communication, cognition and/or swallowing disorders
Actively seeks out a diagnosis mx to facilitate ability to independently treat throughout the hospital
Demonstrates skilled expertise when monitoring patients during treatment
Able to apply reasoning and judgment to skilled observations and reports adverse reactions to physician and/or nursing
Demonstrates a working knowledge of speaking valve usage and contraindications
Ensures patient safety
Offers alternatives to physician when appropriate
Actively seeks research based treatments and applies to daily treatment
Develops creative and innovative ways to provide treatment i.e. group sessions, summer speech camps, structured and interactive adult group/individual sessions

SUMMARY: Under direction, provides or assists in providing professional services, including diagnosis and treatment, to individuals with speech and language disorders. Performs the basic measures and diagnostic tests associated with speech and language therapy, and performs therapeutic treatment of patients. Performs related duties as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.
1. Administers diagnostic tests of articulation, language (including semantics, syntax, grammar, morphology and phonology), auditory perception, voice and stuttering.
2. Assists in evaluating the patient's communicative abilities by examining the peripheral speech related mechanisms for impairment of vital capacity and tidal air, respiratory control and coordination, laryngeal valving and phonatory function, pharyngeal and palatal activity, articulatory movement of the lips, tongue, jaws and palate; conducts audiological screenings.
3. Carries out treatment of communicative disorders using current principles, theories and practices, assists in the preparation of audio-visual aids for use with patients.
4. Counsels patients and relatives regarding problems resulting from communicative disorder; instructs patients and relatives in the principles of home treatment; assists in the supervision and training of student speech therapists, assists in acquainting other personnel with the principles and practices of speech therapy.
5. Employs the use of standard clinical equipment such as tape recorders, language master, portable audiometer, audio-visual equipment.
6. Keeps records of work performed and prepares reports on the patient's treatment and progress; attends inter-disciplinary staff conference to discuss the problems and progress of various patients.
7. Participates in ward rounds and in inter-disciplinary staff meetings for planning total patient care; serves as consultant in speech pathology and audiology to other disciplines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: possession of a Master's Degree or equivalent in Speech Pathology from a school approved by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Current licensure with the California Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Board. Possession of Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech, Language, Hearing Association. Speech Language Pathologists must have both a state license and their certificate of clinical competence from ASHA.
Pay Range: $72.76 / Hour
The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization. Alameda Health System also offers eligible positions a generous comprehensive benefits program.

Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist Assistant - Clinic This position supports licensed Speech-Language Pathologists in providing direct therapeutic services to children for acquisition and mastery of functional skills to reduce or overcome limitations resulting from disabilities or developmental delays. Under the supervision of an SLP, the SLPA implements treatment plans, documents progress, assists with caregiver education, and prepares therapy materials. Services are clinic-based in both individual and small-group settings. This position is a member of the Preschool Inclusion Team and collaborates with other professionals to promote inclusive practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This position requires face to face interactions with staff, board, vendors, and the general public on a daily basis to accomplish all essential functions of the position.
TREATMENT IMPLEMENTATION & DOCUMENTATION
Deliver therapy sessions based on the SLP's Plan of Care, ensuring interventions align with established goals and measurable outcomes. Collect data during sessions and maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with agency policies, Medicaid, and private insurance requirements. Prepare therapy materials and maintain a safe, organized treatment environment. Support caregiver education by modeling strategies and providing home programming guidance under SLP direction.
INDIVIDUALIZED THERAPY
Provide individualized, direct therapy services to children with disabilities or developmental delays, strictly adhering to the established Plan of Care. Conduct focused therapy sessions in individual settings to maximize client progress. Ensure completion of authorized therapy visits within the authorization timeframe, proactively managing scheduling and communicating with the supervising SLP.
PRESCHOOL INCLUSION COLLABORATION
Assist in fostering inclusive preschool environments by supporting the development of Preschool Inclusion Plans (PIPs) and Classroom Inclusion Plans (CIPs) under SLP guidance. Prepare adaptive materials and visuals to support classroom inclusion. Participate in team meetings, professional development, and family meetings as needed.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
Attend monthly team meetings and agency trainings to ensure family and child outcomes are met.
Perform other duties to support the delivery and quality of services provided to Brighton families.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Current Texas SLPA license in good standing. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or equivalent meeting Texas SLPA requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR systems.
