1986

The company had also launched a Visual Programming division, and in 1986 this unit landed in the spotlight for its creation of Max Headroom, a computer-animated hipster who briefly had a TV show in America after appearing in a $25 million Coca-Cola ad campaign.

1987

1987 1987 Chrysalis is named beneficiary of the first annual Run for the Homeless, which brings together runners and Chrysalis clients to raise funds, awareness, and media attention.

In 1987, the Company expanded its services by creating an eight-bed group home located in Midway, Utah. this group home marked the beginning of the residential services provided by Chrysalis.

1988

Diversification was on the horizon, and in 1988 the FIRST Information Group, a producer of software, was acquired.

1989

Sale of Record Label, Corporate Rebirth: 1989-94

1989: Fifty percent of record company is sold to Thorn EMI.

1991

1991 1991 Labor Connection, known today as Chrysalis Staffing, is created to provide temporary jobs for clients.

1991: Remainder of record business is acquired by Thorn EMI; Chrysalis Group, now consisting of only a music publishing business and a coin-operated amusement and vending operation, starts over by moving into TV production and other ventures.

1993

In August 1993 the company launched a new record label, Echo.

The year 1993 also saw the sale of FIRST Information Group to that firm's management.

1994

After winning a license bid, the first station was launched in Birmingham in September 1994 with the company's new adult-oriented rock and pop Heart format.

1994: First radio station, Birmingham-based Heart 100.7 FM, debuts.

1994 1994 Amid a growing demand for services on the Westside, Chrysalis opens a center in Santa Monica.

1995

Seeking to expand its radio operations in 1995, the company sold its stake in Metro Radio to facilitate bidding on a license to broadcast in Yorkshire, England, and launched a Heart format station in London.

1997

In 1997 Chrysalis acquired two more radio licenses in Yorkshire and Manchester, England, from Faze FM for approximately £20 million.

1998

1998: Firm expands into book publishing via acquisitions and investments.

1999

Wright was determined to persevere, however, and in the summer of 1999 he announced the formation of a new imprint, Papillon, which would handle older artists that were being ignored by mainstream labels.

1999 1999 In partnership with the Junior League, Chrysalis launches an annual Women’s Empowerment Program.

2000

In the fall of 2000, Richard Huntingford was named Chrysalis Group CEO, reflecting Chris Wright's less direct involvement with the company he had founded.

Results for fiscal 2000 were the best ever, with pretax profits of £1 million on revenues of £168.2 million.

2001 2001 With a rising demand for services in the San Fernando Valley, Chrysalis opens its third center in Pacoima.

2002 2002 The first annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball is held at a private estate in Beverly Hills.

2004 2004 The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation selects Chrysalis’ temporary staffing agency as a national model of a successful solution to returning the hardest-to-employ to the workforce.

2005 2005 A gift from Alan Long allows Chrysalis to purchase and expand its Santa Monica center.

2010 2010 A five-year strategic plan is approved by the Board, which includes curriculum enhancements, including specialized workshops, a scholarship fund, and more computer and customer service training.

2011 2011 The annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball celebrates its 10th anniversary.

2012 2012 Chrysalis completes a $2m expansion and renovation of its Downtown center.

2014 2014 A $1m+ relocation of the San Fernando Valley center doubles the amount of client resource space to better serve the growing population in need of Chrysalis’ services in the Valley.

2015 2015 Updates to the core curriculum job readiness classes are implemented, and job retention is tracked for the first time.

2019 2019 Made possible through a collaboration between the Los Angeles County Probation Department and the Office of Diversion and Reentry, a first-of-its kind community center opens in South Los Angeles to reentry citizens and community members.

2020 2020 In March, Chrysalis transitions to remote work and services due to COVID-19 safety precautions, facilitating classes and one-on-ones virtually.
