At the WCIRB, the DataAnalyst plays a vital role in supporting a healthy California workers' compensation system through data-driven insights, innovation, and collaboration. We work on a variety of workers' compensation projects, from medical cost trend analysis and classification research that support advisory pure premium rate changes (see: Regulatory and Pure Premium Rating Filings | WCIRB California), to innovative studies uncovering emerging drivers of system costs. Our research dives into timely and relevant topics, such as employee tenure, long COVID, and the effectiveness of experience rating in promoting workplace safety. We also push boundaries by exploring how climate change and AI may influence the workers' compensation landscape in the years ahead.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the DataAnalyst:
Assist with the implementation of medical and classification analytics projects through:
Independently developing well-documented and reproducible scripts in SQL, R or Python for pulling and wrangling data for the Analyst's own work and for the use of research staff in studies or to address ad-hoc requests.
Performing accuracy and reasonableness checks to assure quality of the working dataset is appropriate to each study.
Communicating clearly to research staff the rules employed to prepare the working datasets for study.
Assisting with statistical analyses (e.g., hypothesis testing, regression analysis, predictive modeling) to answer key research questions.
Developing data visualization to effectively highlight trends and patterns.
Preparing tables and figures to present analysis results in reports and presentations.
Assuring analysis results are accurate following the Data Analytics team review protocol.
Providing technical and peer review of other analysts' work.
Communicating results via written and oral presentations.
Develop and maintain automation of routine analysis data and reporting tasks, including annual and quarterly medical benchmarking reports.
Interact and communicate with representatives of other units of the WCIRB on various analytics-related and operational projects and issues.
Education, Experience, and Skill Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required. Bachelor's Degree or above in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, data science, computer science or other related field.
A minimum of two years of SQL, R or Python programming experience in a DataAnalyst or equivalent role, or through coursework.
Demonstrated knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system, U.S. industry classifications or property/casualty insurance obtained through work or internship experience.
Strong proficiency in data wrangling, building functions and producing data visualization in R or Python.
Track record of completed analytical projects in R or Python.
Experience with statistical modeling (e.g., regression analysis), text analytics, geospatial data or predictive modelling.
Experience in working with relational databases, large data sets and multiple data sources.
Ability to communicate both effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
Strong listening and interpersonal skills.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft office suite.

For over a century, the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB) has been California's trusted, objective provider of actuarially based information and research, advisory pure premium rates and educational services integral to a healthy workers' compensation system. The WCIRB is a California unincorporated, private, nonprofit association comprised of all companies licensed to transact workers' compensation insurance in California. The operations of the WCIRB are funded primarily by membership fees and assessments; no state money is used to fund its operations. About the role:
The Associate, Provider Data Analytics, reviews provider data-related issues and scales solutions through impact analysis. This role requires collaboration with business and technical stakeholders to represent departmental needs in company-wide strategic initiatives and problem-solving. Key responsibilities include understanding business requirements, building and managing project plans, documenting decisions, and developing risk mitigation and change management strategies.
You will report into the Senior Manager, Provider Data Operations.
Work Location: This is a remote position, open to candidates who reside in: Atlanta, Georgia. You will be fully remote; however, our approach to work may adapt over time. Future models could potentially involve a hybrid presence at the hub office associated with your metro area. #LI-Remote
Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is: $87,188.40 - $114,434.78 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program and annual performance bonuses.
Responsibilities:
Leads end-to-end management of cross-functional projects related to provider data issues, including issue analysis, stakeholder engagement, coordination of cross-functional relationships to drive collaboration, and participation in testing to ensure accurate and effective solutions
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholder groups to develop proactive solution plans for data issues, including communication strategies and program initiatives for successful change management and risk mitigation
Identifies trends in provider data issues and scale solutions by leveraging various analytics to assess the overall impact
Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

Requirements:
A bachelor's degree or 3+ years commensurate experience
3+ years of work experience in operations, health insurance, data analysis, and/or consulting
2+ years of experience using SQL and Excel
2+ years of experience with end to end project management
2+ years of experience in designing and improving workflows as well as standing up accompanying operating and technical procedures
2+ years of experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma
Bonus points:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or other related field
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher
