The Clinical Specialist reports to the Assistant Manager, Medical Management and provides clinical decision-making support and community resource coordination in support of Community Health Options Medical Management approach. This balances advocacy for the individual based on benefit design with stewardship for the entire individual and group membership through effective utilization management strategies. The incumbent supports Medical Management operational needs to ensure effective and efficient program coordination across the health continuum. The Clinical Specialist employs critical thinking skills to effectively manage complex medical and behavioral health presentations. This individual is nimble and consistently demonstrates ability to swiftly adapt and flex work assignments based on daily operational priorities to include appropriate referrals to coordinate Member-centric services. Responsible primarily for performing medical necessity reviews for appropriateness of authorization of behavioral health care services (IP/OP/PHP/IOP etc.) and medical necessity reviews of some medical services such as imaging and other outpatient medical services. Remote work is required. Must provide sufficient internet bandwidth to meet system operational needs and have a home office environment that protects the privacy and integrity of confidential information.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Health Options commitment to superior customer service.
Efficiently coordinates medical services to facilitate Members receiving the right care, at the right time, in the right setting.
Using approved evidence-based clinical criteria, reviews requests to determine if submitted clinical documentation supports medical necessity.
Consults with or refers case to Medical Director for complex clinical presentation or medical necessity review.
Appropriately identifies and refers cases to claim operations queue (i.e., subrogation, coordination of benefits, clinical research).
Collaborates with the Care Management Team and ensures appropriate referrals are placed.
Establishes relationships with local providers, health care organizations discharge planners/coordinators, and community resources, as applicable.
Complete accurate and timely documentation according to established policies and procedures.
Participates in quality improvement activities and professional development such as Interrater Reliability (IRR).
Consistently references approved resources and follows established department procedures and workflows.
Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of Member and proprietary company information.
Ability to effectively deescalate Member and provider emotionally charged situations.
Ability to maintain production levels and quality standards with minimal direct supervision.
Performs additional duties as assigned.

Candidates must have direct experience investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating, and resolving claims as an adjuster or adjuster supervisor within a carrier, TPA, or similar claims environment.
Responsibilities

Investigate, evaluate, and adjust workers' compensation claims in accordance with established procedures and California regulations.
Negotiate and settle liens with lien claimants, medical providers, and applicant attorneys.
Handle future medical/lifetime medical claims, ensuring timely authorization and payment of treatment, services, and prescriptions.
Review medical reports, legal correspondence, and billing to determine reasonableness and relatedness to ongoing claims.
Coordinate with defense counsel and vendors to resolve complex lien disputes.
Maintain current and accurate diary, documentation, and billing records.
Ensure compliance with CCMSI standards, client requirements, and jurisdictional timeframes.
Deliver exceptional customer service to clients, claimants, and internal partners.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum 2 years of workers' compensation claim handling experience, with exposure to lien resolution and/or lifetime medical management.
SIP certification or Experienced Adjuster designation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong time management and organizational abilities with attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred:
Prior experience managing claims within the staffing or transportation industries.

This position follows a hybrid work from home (WFH) model, with field visits as needed. The schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM MT - 5:00 PM MT, no evenings, weekends or holidays.

Primary Responsibilities:
* Conduct comprehensive assessments (telephonic or in-person) to identify physical, behavioral, and social needs

About the Role
The Level I Utilization Management Clinician performs utilization review for medical or behavioral health requests using utilization review criteria, technologies, and tools. Identifies, coordinates, and implements high quality, cost-effective alternatives when appropriate to the patient's condition. As a Medical SocialWorker, you'll contribute to our success in the following ways:
Ensures that all activities performed align with the vision of Elara Caring's board of directors, executive team, and the leadership of the Home Health team.
Assesses patients to identify the psychosocial, financial, and environmental needs of patients as evidenced by documentation, clinical records, case conferences, team report, call-in logs, and on-site evaluations.
Makes the initial socialwork evaluation visit and reevaluates the patient's socialwork needs during each following visit.
Communicates significant findings, problems, and changes in condition or environment to the Supervisor, the physician and/or other personnel involved with patient care.
Reports unsafe conditions and the outcome of each visit to the appropriate Supervisor by the end of the day.
Implements the plan for patient safety, using patient, family, and community resources.
Participates in implementation and development of the Plan of Care to ensure quality and continuity of care and proper discharge planning.
Verifies the Plan of Care prior to each visit and provides care according to physician's orders, assessment data, and established standards and guidelines.
Initiates and revises the Plan of Care in response to identified patient care issues.
Writes physician orders to cover additional visits and changes to the plan of care, per agency policy.
Incorporates patient care goals established in the plan of care, as evidenced by documentation in clinical note.
Performs appropriate skilled services/interventions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and certified by the patient's physician.
Counsels, instructs, and includes the patient and family in following the Plan of Care and meeting socialwork-related needs.
What is Required?
Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree in SocialWork from a school of SocialWork accredited by the Council of SocialWork Education
1+ year of socialwork experience in a healthcare setting.
