The church was founded on February 4, 2001 by Chris Hodges and a core group of 34 people.
Since it began in 2001, Highlands has grown to have campuses across the state of Alabama, and we’re known for our life-giving culture and focus on leading people to an intimate relationship with God.
He co-founded ARC (Association of Related Churches) in 2001, which has launched hundreds of churches across the United States.
On Fathers Day, July 5th (2006), Pastor Leighton Sheley was installed as Senior Pastor.
In 2007, it opened its main building, with a 2,400-seat auditorium.
Pastor Donald Sheley continued to hold the positions of Founding Pastor, Pastor of Missions, and Preaching Pastor until his passing on February 7th (2016).
