1991

Founded - 1991 | Inventor and original developer of capacitive trackpad technology.

1992

Cirque du Soleil hasn’t received any grants from the public or private sectors since 1992.

Of the numerous achievements in 1992, perhaps none was more important to the company's financial well-being than the one-year engagement at the Mirage Hotel.

1993

In addition to this budding success story, the company could claim victory with its new Saltimbanco production, in the midst of its 19-month North American tour in 1993.

1994

In April 1994, Cirque adapted GlidePoint into an integrated circuit and began selling a retail GlidePoint touchpad.

Completion of the permanent theater in Las Vegas included the debut of Myst;aaere in 1994, marking the beginning of a ten-year contract signed with Mirage Resorts.

1995

Also in 1995, Saltimbanco sets out to open officially the European market.

Testament to Cirque du Soleil's widespread recognition and appeal arrived in an unusual fashion in 1995, when the Canadian government asked the company to create a show for the G7 Summit in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

1996

Myst;aaere, by itself, generated $40 million in revenue in 1996, convincing Wynn to construct a second theater for Cirque du Soleil.

1997

Saltimbanco stopped its run in London in early 1997, five years after its debut, and was replaced by Alegria, which began another two-year tour in Europe.

In 1997, Wynn devoted $60 million for a new theater at his new Las Vegas resort, Bellagio.

A third permanent site for Cirque du Soleil also was under construction in 1997, located at Walt Disney World, near Orlando, Florida.

1998

In October 1998, Cirque du Soleil's second permanent production debuted at Wynn's Bellagio.

1999

Programmable Gestures - 1999 | Cirque develops desktop trackpad with programmable gestures.

In 1999 Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun) had four productions touring throughout North America, Asia, Europe, and the Pacific region, and four productions appearing at permanent locations in Las Vegas; Orlando, Florida; and Biloxi, Mississippi.

Alegria, back from its European tour, found a permanent home at Wynn's $600 million, Biloxi, Mississippi-based Beau Rivage resort, debuting in 1999.

The company also completed a large-format (IMAX) film entitled Journey of Man in 1999.

2001

The second IHQ building, called the Workshops, was inaugurated in early 2001.

2002

In April, a fifth touring show is added to the seven Cirque du Soleil shows already performing simultaneously in 2002.

2003

Since the summer of 2003, Cirque du Soleil’s International Headquarters complex has included a residence to house artists who are in Montreal for short periods for their acrobatic and artistic training.

2004

Cirque du Soleil celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2004.

2005

The year 2005 is marked by the Montreal launch and world premiere of Corteo, Cirque’s latest touring show.

2006

After touring in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, Cirque du Soleil has set out to make a name for itself in South America by presenting its show Saltimbanco in Chile, Argentina and Brazil in 2006.

2007

KOOZA, a new touring show, is launched in Montreal in April 2007.

In 2007, Cirque du Soleil added a third wing to its international headquarters, to quell a pressing need for more administrative space.

Starting in 2007, this seasonal show has been performed for 10 weeks for four years.

2009

In September 2009, Guy Laliberté became the first Canadian private space explorer.

2010

Cirque du Soleil launches three new productions in 2010.

2011

Automotive Trackpads - 2011 | Cirque develops trackpads to integrate in automotive interfaces.

2014

In 2014, in the context of an on-going strategy of diversifying its content and live-entertainment activities worldwide, Cirque du Soleil has created some subsidiaries among which:

In 2015, Cirque du Soleil will present simultaneously some 20 different shows around the world.

2016

Close to 10 million have seen a Cirque du Soleil show in 2016.

In 2016, the Costume workshop has produced some 14 000 pieces (bodysuits, hats, wigs, dresses, pants, shoes, etc.) and used close to 30 kilometres of fabric from around the world.

2018

2021

30 Years - 2021 | Cirque celebrates 30 years providing touch solutions.
