We're looking for a Validation Software Engineering Intern who's excited to work at the intersection of hardware and software. In this role, you'll help build the tools and infrastructure that make it possible to validate next-generation silicon chips. You'll get hands-on experience with test automation, hardware-in-the-loop systems, and data analysis pipelines-contributing to real engineering challenges that impact the performance and quality of our products.
This internship is a great opportunity if you enjoy coding with a purpose, learning how software connects to real-world hardware, and seeing your tools directly support silicon validation teams. This internship will take place during the Summer 2026 semester over the course of a 12-14 week long internship working a full-time schedule.

The Product Engineering team is developing the software tools and processes to create production tests for AMD's next generation of products. Position Overview
As an HBM Memory Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and analyzing digital and analog circuits for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) products. You'll collaborate with global development and validation teams to build and optimize DRAM circuits, supporting multi-functional initiatives to ensure manufacturability, performance, and reliability. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking memory solutions for AI, HPC, and data-centric systems.
Responsibilities
* Design, layout, and optimize memory, logic, and analog circuits for HBM products.
* Perform parasitic modeling, design validation, reticle experiments, and tape-out revisions.
* Collaborate with layout teams to meet floorplanning, placement, and routing requirements.
* Conduct verification using industry-standard simulators and modeling tools.
* Maintain technical expertise through continuous training and cross-group communication.
* Partner with Product Engineering, Test, Probe, Process Integration, Assembly, and Marketing to ensure manufacturability and performance.
* Engage with Standards, CAD, modeling, and verification teams to ensure design quality.
* Drive innovation for future memory generations in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Minimum Qualifications
* Basic knowledge of CMOS circuit design and device physics.
* Familiarity with schematic entry and simulation using FineSim and/or HSPICE.
* Understanding of power network analysis and state machine logic.
* Experience with Verilog modeling and simulation tools.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
* Effective communication skills for multi-functional collaboration.
* Experience with scripting languages (Python, TCL, Perl, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
* Familiarity with DRAM memory concepts and SoC/IO interfaces.
* Ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly in verbal and written form.
* Enthusiastic teammate with a proactive approach.
* Experience working in a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment.

Position includes test planning, test creation, pattern debug, characterization, data analysis, and silicon debug of scan/ATPG, memory BIST & High Speed I/O tests and related technologies. Applicant will learn: modern DFT implementations, failure mechanisms, and debug processes, and will gain ATE and coding experience. Key Functions: Depending on the specific project assignment, will perform applicable functions from the following:
Product debug and characterization to determine product performance, process and test sensitivities.
Perform yield analysis and use industry standard tools (Mentor's Tessent Diagnosis, etc) to support yield debug and failure analysis.
Write scripts or web pages to support efficiency improvements within the scan team.
Preferred Education and Experience
In progress towards a BS/MS in Electrical/Computer Engineering; GPA of at least 3.3/4.0.
Solid understanding of transistors and computer basics.
Familiarity with Linux, Perl, Java, and regular expressions is preferred.
Ability to work two coop terms back-to-back (summer/fall or spring/summer) is strongly preferred.
