City Harvest company history timeline
City Harvest was founded in 1982, and is the world's first food rescue organization.
The story of City Harvest Church began in 1989 when Kong Hee, then an itinerant preacher and missionary, was called by the Lord to raise up a generation which would take Asia by storm.
In 2003, Kong taught on the Cultural Mandate and challenged the members to engage culture with relevance, creatively serving society as Christlike citizens, for the glory of God.
In 2005, City Harvest began holding two, free farmers’ market-style distributions in low-income communities each month.
In December 2011, City Harvest opened its 45,400 square foot Food Rescue Facility in Long Island City, Queens.
In 2012, CHC was considered one of the 10 largest churches in the world1.
In the fiscal year of 2013, these markets delivered roughly one million pounds of produce to 50,000 residents.
